Department of Intellectual Property reports highlight in anti-piracy bids

BANGKOK, 9 March 2016 (NNT) – Nuntawan Sakuntanaga, director general of the Department of Intellectual Property, the Ministry of Commerce, announced a highlight in the agency's efforts to combat piracy of intellectual property.

That is leading to the 49th Meeting of the ASEAN Working Group on Intellectual Property Cooperation or AWGIPC which will be held during March 22-25, 2016 at Continental Hotel Bangkok.

The upcoming meeting aims to focus on the development of the ASEAN IPR Action Plan 2016-2025 adopted by member nations during the 48th AWGIPC meeting in Myanmar.

Nuntawan mentioned other efforts of the department to combat the violation of intellectual property in Thailand following the placement of Thailand under the Priority Watch List by the Office of the United States Trade Representatives. That included the making of more legislations against the violation of intellectual property and stepped-up suppression measures against suspected smugglers and distributors of pirated products.

The efforts also involved the process for the issuing of patents through the use of online e-patent and e-trademark registrations, increased cooperation with public and private organizations both in Thailand and abroad and increased self-awareness about property rights.

Somboon Cheycharoen, director of the Office of Prevention and Suppression of Intellectual Property Violation, reviewed that the intellectual property violations had been reduced by more than half. That resulted from the confiscating of pirated products in Bangkok which has been numerically reduced as well.

Thailand's border checkpoint operations have become more effective, with last year alone seeing over 2,200,000 contraband items confiscated.

The Department of Intellectual Property will destroy the confiscated products and present a GI Market award which will facilitate the innovation and creativity of local Thai products.

Good luck with that.

Cock and bull story, I'll wager that the confiscated goods are sold to market traders for a tidy profit..whistling.gif whistling.gif

following the placement of Thailand under the Priority Watch List by the Office of the United States Trade Representatives.

As usual, to get Thailand to enforce its own laws, it must be motivated by foreign nations.

Thai's do protect property rights try to buy a house or land. But in the reverse a Thai goes to US they can buy house, land, business any licenses needed to operate businesses without an American partner. Also they get due process of the law. Oh wait that's right US is a democracy silly me.

Thainess personified!
