Is it typical to delay surgery for Epiretinal membrane removal until the eye sight in that eye deteriorates to a corrected vision of 20-60?

I have no direct knowledge of the precise stage of membrane development when surgery is definitively advised.

You may find the information leaflet (in the link) helpful.

It was traditional, yes. But a 2004 study indicated benefit to doing it earlier, see http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC1280091/

Of course, most epiretinal membranes do not require surgery at all. Surgery is indicated only if/when symptoms start to affect quality of life. That is a somewhat subjective determination.

Thanks for that study. I've forwarded it to my companies medical group.

Dr. In Boston agreed with you Cheryl. No need to wait.

Thanks
