NRSA’s education reform committee to propose plan on assessment of education quality

BANGKOK, 10 March 2016 (NNT) – A committee under the National Reform Steering Assembly is planning to propose an urgent plan on the assessment of the country’s quality of education.

Spokeswoman of the NRSA’s committee on the reform of education Piyathida Praditbatuga, said today that the committee has been reviewing the progress of education quality assurances and assessments, by the Office for National Education Standards and Quality Assessment since 1999 and has found that the methodology employed appeared unlikely to be effective in the further development of both quality and higher standards in the country’s educational institutions.

Ms. Piyathida added that it has also caused operational problems in educational institutions at all levels while being in contradiction of the “Return Teachers to Students” policy because teachers have been required to prepare documents for the assessment.

Therefore, the committee has decided to devise an urgent plan to revamp the process, which includes the postponement of the quality assurance and assessment by supervising and outside agencies, until a new system is ready for implementation, she said.

Ms. Piyathida added that the plan will soon be presented to the NRSA meeting and the Cabinet for consideration.

Another 'plan', another committee, another ;) budget.

This would be comedy gold if not for the fact this is about the education of Thailand's future generations.

Stop giving kids 50% when they actually got 10%.....give them the score they earned. Anyone failing a retest must repeat the year/course. It's very simple and costs nothing. One only has to talk to a number of students to see they have practically no interest in formal schooling - they will get their 50. Then go outside to a money making tutorial school to (apparently) learn something. FUBAR

The people at the top aren't qualified. The people below them don't question decisions. And nobody knows how to fix the problem or cannot admit it and ask for outside help.

The majority of students don't study, the teachers didn't study. They are all in debt and don't rock the boat in fear of losing the cushiest job going. It's a mess.

Teacher's are currently appraised by students. Those that are lenient and rewarding are praised highly. Those that are strict, enforce the rules and punish cheats are considered bad Teachers. It's a mess.

Foreign teachers are not employed to think.

Once those at the top admit they need genuine assistance from qualified people the system can start to improve. Until then it's. the same old waste of time and money.
