KBank says Thai economy to grow 3% this year

BANGKOK, 11 March 2016 (NNT) - Kasikornbank (KBank) has forecast that continuous government spending this year could lead to a maximum of 3% economic growth.

KBank Executive Vice President Kattiya Indaravijaya said the Thai economy is likely to expand within the range of 2.8 - 3% by the end of 2016. Growth will become apparent in the second half of this year, when more public funding is injected into the economy.

However, the export sector remains susceptible to the Chinese economic slowdown. Export figures recorded during the first few months have contracted further than previously expected.

The KBank VP also said that politics can influence the economy. Thais are waiting to hear whether a public referendum will be organized to vote on the final draft of the constitution.

Meanwhile, the Thai stock market will continue to fluctuate according to the performance of emerging markets and the various fiscal policies of major economies. Investors are advised to spread the risk by diversifying their portfolios.

In utopia the ecomomy could grow 3% but Thailand is in chaos so reality says that the economy will continue on its downward spiral this year and next year.

As for the increased spending on unnecessary internal megaprojects, a waste of time and money.

Agreed... but the people that implemented these mega projects, are going to get seriously wealthy with their slice of the pie..whistling.gifbiggrin.png

These are the early figures. By the end of the year they will be forgotten if they don't make this quota and if they do! Heheee! I will be surprised.

With a high possibility of more negative inflation, contracting exports, flight of capital from Thailand and further devaluation of the yuan, growth should be within the range of 2.0-2.8% for 2016. Last year's 2.8% will look like a miracle in comparison.

How embarrassing. Nothing in the article supports this. Also, there may be huge problems if they don't fix the human trafficking, fishing and airline safety.

You don't get unlimited timelines because you're nice, or people feel sorry for you.

Issues with any of these will take growth negative.
