What are the best ChiangMai related Facebook groups?

Featured Replies

Eg. for locals selling stuff, farang groups, 'digital nomads', sports, events, meetings, finding a condo etc etc. ?

There are dozens and dozens. I've left most of the groups as they are all dominated by 20 something year old farang kids with a couple of old men who seem to live on the groups and respond to every single post within seconds, either criticizing, or balking at the price of things but never buying. Then there are the 'flippers' buying stuff only to resell at double the price a couple of weeks later........the fake iPhone sellers, etc.

Either that or Russians, Lithuanians, Latvians, etc....'selling' properties for about 4X market value. The Thais on the groups ask 2-3X what normal rents are.

TOTAL waste of time. They were good a year ago or more, but not anymore.

I'd have to say "Chiang Mai Eats" and "Chiang Mai Foodies" and I've got the waistline to prove it.

I`d say why not try looking on facebook yourself. Type Chiang Mai into the search and look at the lists.

I don't have Facebook and stay away from that.

'best' would depend on what for ?? Each section is specific..

CM Eats for food stuff..

Many buy and sell..

Many real estate..

Various question and issues stuff..

Motorbike groups (dirt / road rides, for sales)..

Each group has a different purpose so none are best without having a purpose.

........ummm?

I keep going back to the topic, and now I don't understand the question about facebook groups if you don't use facebook.

don't know what's happened but over the last couple of weeks it seems that most of the groups related to C.M. and Krabi have been taken over by Russians or people from former Soviet Union countries.

in fact there is so much Russian traffic on those groups now that i'm constantly getting ads to "meet Ukrainian ladies"!

Unless these ads are in Russian language they are more targeting English audience.

Actually, you get ads served based on your personal interests, so I guess you spend your time on datingsites. That's how Google Adsense works. Your neigbor who gets turned on by motorbikes gets ads about motorbikes.

Liar, liar, pants on fire.

Aight. So.. Anyone want to answer the question in the OP or are we like .. 'meh' .. ?

Just in case someone IS actually interested, as the OP clearly isn't, and might not even grasp 'Facebook' fully. (Hint: there is no requirement to log every breathing moment of your life on it, to 'Like' anything, or to add 'friends', even.

You could be on it just for groups like these, news sites, get updates from restaurants or businesses you like, contact a business like the excellent (and TV forum sponsor) Pro Auto (https://www.facebook.com/proautothailand/ ) etc. ) You'd be missing out on the 'social' in social media but if you prefer that then that really isn't a problem.

Incredible! I've been a fencer for over 50 years, and I've never heard that joke before! Thanks! rolleyes.gif

The Chiang Mai Expats group is the most tedious group I've ever had the misfortune to join on Facebook. With two moderators that seem to believe they are Thailand's facebook police and their dull insistence on pointing out how impossible it is to earn a living in Northern Thailand. Never join a group where the mod has a hyphenated surname...

Other than that FolkGuitar has pretty much nailed it. The unmoderated Chiang Mai Digital Nomads groups is pretty good too but the larger Digital Nomads groups is basically an advertising forum for a certain "Pick Up Artist"'s scammy drop shipping courses.

"The Chiang Mai Expats Group" is a closed Facebook group and is in NO WAY connected with the Chiang Mai Expats Club (CEC). I posted a link to the open page of the Chiang Mai Expats Club. If you "Like" the page (as over 2100 other people have) you'll receive new content as part of your Facebook "feed".

Note: I'm not the "curator" of the CEC Facebook page, another CEC Board member is and she's much more Facebook savvy than me.

Ex TV by any chance?

"Chiang Mai House for Rent" is where I found the house I just moved into as a rental. I had to wade through all kinds of properties I wasn't interested in but that's part of the process whether you're using FB or not. And it gave me an idea of what the real estate market was like. When I finally found this one I acted fast, and that was smart because there was a lot of interest. My Thai landlord chose me instead of a Chinese family that spoke no Thai. I speak some.

I've also sold several things in the groups for selling used stuff. I like Chiang Mai Buy, Sell, Swap the best, as Winnie seems to. If you want to use it to buy stuff it's hard to be the first to respond unless you stay glued to your computer screen all day long, but it's fantastic for selling stuff.

I'd have to say "Chiang Mai Eats" and "Chiang Mai Foodies" and I've got the waistline to prove it.

The disturbing thing about those groups is that they allow you to see what the people who start burgers and pizza threads on ThaiVisa look like. It's not pretty.

So why did you open a topic called

Yes that's kind of funny right? I'm writing for my new Asia blog that's way I asked this.

Actually the blog has its Facesbook page but for unknown reason I can't view other Facesbook pages.

Thank you for showing interest and participating in this valuable topic!

That doesn't make sense. You're going to write articles on your blog about facebook groups that you have never read yourself?

Nah not writing about them, just mentioning the best ones in a section of a much bigger topic. smile.png

Edit: I was indeed thinking of sponsoring ThaiVisa, might be expensive though no idea. For now just I get the site up and running as good as possible, after the 20th topic I will start to focus on monetizing. The coming week completely rebuild it with a mature look etc. enough to do.
