Dutch pedo Pieter Ceulen arrested in Phnom Penh

PHNOM PENH: Cambodian police on Friday took fugitive Dutch pedophile Pieter Ceulen into custody after brokering his surrender via his lawyers, The Phnom Penh Post reported.

James McCabe, of the Task Force Echo, said the arrest was made in Phnom Penh as a result of negotiations with the offender, who after being subject to intensive media and investigation believed he could not escape from Cambodia and decided to surrender.

He was now being held at the National Police headquarters Anti-Human Trafficking and Juvenile Protection Department, where he would be processed to be formally handed over to the Belgian and Dutch police.

Ceulen – given a 19-year sentence in absentia by a Belgian court on Jan 21 for distribution of child pornography and sex offences against children – has been on the run in the Kingdom, and has been spotted by residents in Siem Reap, where he has a villa.

McCabe said foreign pedophiles should take note. “This should be a warning to all foreign pedophiles that perceive Cambodia as a safe haven; those days are well and truly gone, you will be located and will be arrested and returned.”

Task force Echo was established on March 2 after information was received by the Cambodian National Police from the Belgian and Netherlands police services after they requested assistance in locating and arresting Ceulen.

A "life" sentence in a SE Asian prison would be more appropriate ...............................

The only Dutch involved in this is a liason officer in Cambodia.

That's odd every news sources I have read states that this man is Dutch.

Could you please offer us a link that states he is a Belgian National.

He was handed a 19 year prison sentence by a Belgian court but that's the only connection according to any news source.

The release says that it is a Flemish Belgian former banker based in Antwerp.

Note in passing the great distinction between the Walloons Francophone and Flemish Belgians who speak Dutch and see themselves as cousins of this country.

Cambodia and the Philippines do seem to be the number one pedophiles choice. This is because of the lax laws in those countries regarding the welfare of children, especially those of the poor classes.

Pedophiles are a form of pond bottom feeders that prey on the vulnerable and the innocent. The worse of it is that they`re everywhere, they come from all walks of life and there could be one living next door to you right now or even teaching the kids at the schools. The problem is that because of the much publicity given about Pedophiles in the media, people can become paranoid where every adult male becomes a possible suspect. There was a recent case of a 7 year old boy left alone to wander about in a New York store, although his mother had her eye on him from a distance while she tried on some jackets. A man in his 60s approached the boy thinking he was lost and was immediately grabbed by the mother and then arrested. After he explained it was made clear this was a misunderstanding and later the man was thanked for his concern. But this is how bad the situation has become in our modern society and it can only get worse.
