BANGKOK, 13 March 2016 (NNT) – Members of the National Legislative Assembly are scheduled to deliberate more draft amendments and laws this week.

NLA President Pornpetch Wichitcholchai on Saturday issued an order calling for sittings on March 17 and 18.

On March 17, NLA members are expected to receive an update on the work of the Cabinet and to deliberate the draft law o the army reserve as well as to acknowledge the report on the audit of the social security fund for 2015.

In addition, the legislature will also review two urgent topics; one is the deliberation of the draft amendment of the Mineral Act and the other the draft amendment of the Tourism and Guide Registration Act. The sitting will also discuss a report on the prevailing standards of the information technology system and the medical data system.

However, Mr. Pornpetch has not set an agenda for the sitting on March 18.

If ever a piece of legislation needs a review is the 200 year old mining act , it is so out of date and step with this centaury Genghis Khan was a teenager when it was proclaimed , no doubt there will be positions taken from the mining companies, some who certainly do their best to circumvent their moral obligations as far as the environment is concerned , the method and power of inspections / inspectors from the Mining , Health and Environmental departments needs overhauling, it is certainly not a good look when villagers resort to the police to get action........................................................coffee1.gif

If legislation parallels the 2016 draft charter, it will greatly weaken an individual's and community's right to challenge development projects.

Compared to the 2007 Constitution, the 2016 draft charter apparently reduces the level of protection for the public and denies direct petition to the courts. The latter essentialy estopes any complaints filed with the Police to a prosecurial process.
