Renewal Of 1 Year Marriage Visa

Recommended Posts

I have been staying on a yearly marriage visa for the past 2 years.

This year I do not have the 400,000 baht in the bank, also my wife and I do not generate 40k every month. We have a home and business on a holiday island and only make good money in the high season.

So I'm heading to England to get a 15 month multiple entry non immigrant O visa this December.

Next year we should be in a position to show 40k per month, all being well.

My question is : will I be able to get a one year extension when my multiple entry expires next year ?

Thanks in advance.

To use monthly income for extension of stay I believe you do not have to show 40K per month every month, but it has to be an average of 40K/month.

In case of the applicant who is married to a Thai wife, one of them or both of them need to have the total annual income that is averaged out not less than 40,000 Baht per month. Except for the case that the said foreign national has entered Thailand before this Order is enforced and the foreign national has been permitted to stay in the Kingdom by the result of having married to a Thai wife, then if the applicant does not have the said income, then, the latest 3 months records of the account book of any Bank in Thailand with the account name of either or both parties need to have the amount of money not less than 400,000 Baht.

Source: Police Order No. 606/2006, paragraph 7.17

If this would solve your problem, check with your Immigration Office if a monthly average of 40K is indeed acceptable. The original Thai wording is what really matters. The English translation on the website of the Immigration Bureau, for example, does not include the text “averaged out”, and the Thai version of that site does not seem to include that particular Police Order.

If you start your extension process again with a new non-O visa, you will no longer have the option of extending your stay with 400K in the bank: 40K/month will then be your only option. Therefore, it would be to your advantage if you could continue your extensions without interruption.
