Man executed in front of wife in "murder capital" of Thailand. But she is saying nothing.
Thaivisa Reporters

NAKHON SRI THAMMARAT:-- A leading southern businessman was brutally executed in front of his wife in their living room Tuesday.

The gunman - who police suspect is a close relative of the wife - emptied a gun into the face and body of Somsak Sangkhapan shooting him multiple times.

The grisly attack happened at the large two storey mansion in Cha-uat district of Nakorn Sri Thammarat, known as the murder capital of Thailand.

Somsak, the owner of a large company that rents furniture and marquees had been doing business in the local market. He returned home and asked his wife Suporn ,50, to make him a coffee before he sat down to watch TV. It was his last drink.

A gunman emerged from the shadows in a corner of the house and shot him five times in the head and nine times in the chest in full view of his wife who cried out and promptly fainted.

The assailant escaped. Police were called and found Somsak riddled with bullets lying in a pool of blood. Meanwhile, Suporn had been taken to Cha-uat hospital before investigators arrived.

Police said that they believed the victim had been shot once in the head, then turned over and finished off, to make sure he was dead. They suspect that a long running dispute over money involving the wife's side of the family was behind the execution.

After investigators were told that the wife had regained consciousness they went to the hospital where relatives said Suporn was unable to give evidence. They returned later in the day and she refused to speak in person.

Detectives are working on the assumption that she knows the identity of the gunman who they suspect is a close family member. Meanwhile, they are working on other leads and seeking search warrants from the local court to swiftly find the perpetrator.

Ah, NST, lived there for over 20 yrs .... nothing surprises me at all. Seen a car salesman looking for repayment, a jilted boyfriend v's girlfriend and a guy driving down a major road in A. Muang all shot dead and all within 24hrs and all within a square half kilometre.

Having said that, also home to some of my long term Thai friends ....

NST, especially Cha-uat is gun country. My wife's first teaching job was at a school near Cha-uat where the director asked her to sign off for an English camp that never happened. She refused until he took a revolver out of his office drawer and asked her to sign the paperwork. She did. Luckily she moved out of that school a few months later.

Seems there's only a one way exit from a Thai relationship....lead poisoning!

Not possible. This is the Land of Smiles.

Or possibly a 'fall' from a high rise balcony?

Yes, that's gaining in popularity & less expense....no lead!!

Loyalty is to the blood relatives, not the husband who has worked hard and provided her with security and a lifestyle for many years.

Nothing to do with loyalty, all to do with saving her own skin. She's next if she makes any sound at all!

Nit pick time:

"Murder capital" would be money (capital) used to invest in murder

"Murder capitol" would be informal center of murder, along lines of "hub of murder" I would guess.

Well nit pick correctly!

Murder Capital - can refer to a city (as in capital city of a country)

Capital - can mean money but actually refers to assets that could be money or property

Capital - can also mean something is very good (old fashioned expression)

but your best error is capitol!

Capitol - refers to a building or a group of buildings that state legislative meets. If you were to capitalize it - Capitol - then it refers directly to the building in Washington DC

Really? Capital of murder?

I have been living in NST for almost 2 years (not in the city, in a village about 50 km from it). I go quite often to NST Muang and I haven't really felt like being in the capital of murder.

What I have noticed is that there are a lot of boutique hotels, fancy coffee shops, residential buildings, all of them new or under construction. I' ve even heard that there are some plans to settle a water park. Simple investments or money laundering from crime business?
