My husband has had two trips to Penang recently and on both occasions been given a single entry tourist visa although he applied to a one year non immigrant O

Has anyone any experience of the attitude at the Thai consul in Langkawi

We are both over 50 and I have a Retirement visa already in place. :o

Your husband should be talking with immigration to join you as your dependent on your retirement visa. Or he could obtain a retirement visa for himself with the funds. In neither case does he have to leave Thailand.

thanks for the swift response lopburi3 and that is exactly as I understand it ......however when we went to Koh Samui immigration the officer there seemed to completely ignore the fact that he is my husband and dependent and suggested he get retirement visa with another 800,000 .. he behaved as though a one year non imm o dependant visa was not an option and recommended my husband went to Penang to get a single entry non o which could be extended with 800,000. He went to Penang with all the documents and was given a single entry tourist visa in spite of his application being for a non imm. We are now thinking of him going to Surat Thani immigration office to see if they adhere better to what is written as the immigration law.

Is the problem that he is on a tourist visa currently...can this be converted in Thailand to the non imm o dependent visa?
