Hi guys,

I'm a newby, so sorry if this topic has been posted already...

I'm an Australian who has been travelling in Thailand.

I now want to live and work here.

I currently have a double entry tourist visa (expiring 22 November 2006)

I hear there have been changes to the tourist visa sitn.

I'm a gemstone trader (sole proprietor), and will be flying in and out of BKK on a regular basis, and want to use BKK as my base.

I understand that changes to the tourist visa is that I can only stay in the country max of 90 days out of every 180 days. Is this correct?

BTW: I also have an Italian passport, maybe I can use this as well... but methinks that only gets me another 90 days...

I'm heading back to Oz in Nomember, is it easier to get another visa there?

Has anyone any further info about this or know where I can find out more?

Know any good cheap lawyers I can use here?

There has been no change in tourist visa usage. The change is for entry without visa being limited to 90 days.

It would be best to obtain a multi entry non immigrant visa in Oz. That would allow freedom to travel for a year at a time with stays up to 90 days.

Ok, so I can obtain a multi entry non mmigrant visa in Oz when I go back there for xmas, which will get me 90 days stay (Jan-March). Then, after the expiry of 90 days... I can apply for another 90 day multi entry non immigrant visa from another country (or Oz) (Apr-June) and keep doing this back to back for 12 months?

The multi entry visa is for one year. You can come and go 500 times a year if you like but every entry is limited to 90 days at a time. No need to go to a Embassy for a year after getting the multi entry visa.

A multi entry non immigrant is valid for one year at a time. You can come and go at any time and stay up to 90 days on each visit. There is no need to "get a new visa" after 90 days - if you want to stay longer than 90 days you exit/enter the country for a new 90 day stay. The same visa is used.

Hey guys,

I've just checked the Thai Consulate Website in Australia:

http://thaisydney.idx.com.au/Nonimmigrantvisa.html

It provides that this type of visa is designed for applicants who wish to enter the Kingdom for the following purposes:

- to perform official duties (Category "F")

- to conduct business / to work (Category "B")

- to invest with the concurrence of the Thai Ministries and Government Departments concerned (Category "IM")

- to invest or perform other activities relating to investment, subject to the provision of the established laws on investment promotion (Category "IB")

- to study, to come on a work study tour or observation tour , to participate in projects or seminars , to attend a conference or training course , to study as a foreign Buddhist monk (Category "ED")

- to work as a film-producer, journalist or reporter (Category "M")

- to perform missionary work or other religious activities with the concurrence of the Thai Ministries or Government Departments concerned (Category "R")

- to conduct scientific research or training or teaching in a research institute (Category "RS")

- to undertake skilled work or to work as an expert or specialist (Category "EX")

- other activities (Category "O")

I can possibly fit into the - to conduct business / to work (Category "B") category, but then I need to provide the following documents:

2. DOCUMENTS REQUIRED***

The applicants must submit the following relevant documents depending on the purpose of their visit.

- Letter of invitation from companies qualified to employ foreigners. ("B")

- Employment contract indicating rationale for hiring the applicant as well as his/her salary, position and qualifications (document must be signed by authorized managing director and affixed the seal of the company) ("B")

- Copy of Work Permit issued by the Ministry of Labour and Social Welfare (only in case the applicant has previously worked in the Kingdom ) ("B")

- Document indicating the number of foreign tourists (for tourism business only), or document indicating export transactions issued by banks (for export business only) ("B")

A multiple entries visa allows you to stay up to 90 days for each entry and valid for multiple entries to Thailand within one year, however the applicant must report himself/herself to the nearest immigration office or to the police station.

The application must be supported by the followings; a letter form an employer in Australia or a business counterpart in Thailand which stating clearly the necessity of getting a multiple entries one year visa, a work contract, a business registration of a company he/she working for (the Consulate reserves the right to request more documents). The fee is $ 225.00 AUD (nonrefundable) (“B”)

As I'm not working [right :o] then I cannot provide most the doc's req'd.

I could not see a Multiple Entry Tourist Visa...

Am I having a blonde moment?
