ThaiFelix
An old friend of mine went to renew his drivers lic in Bangkok today and was told he must have a letter from his embassy proving address?? He contacted the British Embassy who told him to make an appointment online, wait about a month and then pay nearly 5,000 baht for the letter?? Do they no longer accept cert of residency from Immigration or local police station??
stevenl
They do accept certificate from immigration. May be a misunderstanding, somebody who does not know the exact rules or it could even be a local requirement. But the latter would be a new one, so doubtful IMO. MadMac
They always needed a form of proof of residence, may be a letter from immigration or embassy, a yellow house book or work permit. Only thing that has changed is that they give you now one more year of validity.

Yes, for the temporary licence, which is now valid for 2 years.
