First, you need to be specific about what you actually have. If you have a (multi) Non Imm O visa based on marriage, my understanding is that the visa remains valid after the divorce. If, on he other hand, as I suspect, you have an extension of stay based on marriage, then technically it is supposed to be canceled. This requires taking the requisite paperwork to immigration to have the extension canceled, after which (on payment of 1,900 baht) you are given 7 days to leave the country. My guess is that most remain on the extension of stay until it expires or they leave the country, though I do not think you are supposed to.

If you have Thai kids under 20 yo is it possible to convert/extend based on visiting them without a break in the existing extension, or convert to an extension based on retirement, again without a break, of course meeting financial requirements. If you intend on staying in Thailand would be interesting to know rather than having to leave and get a new visa.

If you have an extension of stay you obtained at immigration it ends on the date you get divorced.

If you don't have one already a wise move to is go out for a multiple entry non-o visa based upon marriage if your soon to be ex wife will cooperate and give you signed copies of her house book registry and ID card,

Don't wait!!!!!! Go to Immigration and ask them what you need to do. Different days different advices!!!!

I waited and listened to one of the clerks at the desk, was fined and had to leave and get a 90 visa in Laos.

Be sure you talk to someone who knows what they are talking about!!

Very bad idea and most likely illegal.

That does not sound legal to me. It seems your are not leaving the country yourself which makes anything you get illegal.

A tourist visa only allows a 60 day entry that can be extend for 30 days at an immigration office.

There is no 5 month visa !

What you are considering is illegal.

It is illegal for your Passport to leave the country without being in your possession, also are you sure that the stamp is 100% genuine? Without a stamp in your passport to show that you left the country then the new stamp is dogdy to say the least
