Multiple ReEntry Permit

Featured Replies

Hello everyone!

I am currently in Chiang Mai with a single entry visa. I know that now it is possible to ask for a reentry permit that will give me multiple entries during my until my visa expires. Can anyone let me know how this works? When should I ask for the reentry permit, at the airport just before traveling to another country, or I can do it from Chiang Mai a couple of weeks before traveling?

Thanks to everyone!

If you only have a single entry visa it would only allow you to stay in the country for 60 or 90 days dependent upon the type of visa it is. What do you actually have now?

A re-entry permit is only valid for the length of your current permit to stay and adds no days to it when you re-enter the country.

  • Single entry (1,000 baht) or multiple entry (3,800 baht) re-entry permits are available from your local immigration office and can be bought anytime, or at the major airports on the day you leave.
  • If, for example, you have a 90 day stay and leave after 30 days and stay out of the country 10 days, you will be granted 50 days on re-entry.

If you advise what visa you entered the country with, or if you have a 1 year extension of stay, you can be better advised.

Hello again. Thanks both of you for the answers.

Just to give you more details about my situation, I am from Colombia and I got a tourist single entry visa, valid to enter Thailand before May 15. I arrived here on March 2nd and they gave me admission April 30. I would like to go out of the country for a couple of days and enter before May 15 hoping to get another 60 days of stay. Is this possible?

Thanks again.

  • You have already used your visa so it cant be used for another entry. You had one entry that had to be made before May 15th.
  • You have been granted a permit to stay until April 30th. If you buy a single entry re-entry permit it will be valid until April 30th. You can exit anytime but when you re-enter (before April 30th) you will be given permission to stay until April 30th.
  • If you want longer in the country you can apply for a 30 day extension of stay at an immigration office for 1,900 baht. You could apply for that towards the end of April.

A re-entry permit will not allow another 60 day entry. It would only keep the permit to stay you have until April 30th valid when you enter the country.

The visa expiration date of your visa means nothing once you enter the country and is only the last day you could enter the country to use the one entry it allowed.

All you can do now is apply for the 30 day extension and then go out for another tourist visa if you want to stay longer.

Ok, I understand now. Thanks again to both of you.

Do you know if it is possible to apply for a visa again from a neighbor country and if they usually accept it or deny it if I just recently had a visa?

Thanks again.

You can easily apply for a tourist visa at a nearby embassy or consulate. They will not deny it because of having one tourist visa already.

From Chiang Mai the embassy in Vientiane Laos would be the best choice.
