BANGKOK, 27 March 2016 (NNT) - The President of the Constitution Drafting Commission is confident that the new draft charter will pass the upcoming public referendum.

CDC President Meechai Richupan has expressed his appreciation to all the charter drafters, who he said have overcome a lot of hurdles to complete the task.

Mr. Meechai confirmed that all charter drafters have employed rationale and their personal expertise in performing their duty.

He believes that if the charter drafters can make the public fully understand the draft, they will be satisfied with it.

Nevertheless, the CDC President remains concerned about some groups of ill-intentioned people who would try to make the new draft charter fail.

He went on to say that, while the CDC is scheduled to complete the final draft of the new Constitution on March 29, it will remain in office until April 1.

Mr. Meechai also asked members of the press to help disseminate correct information about the contents of the draft charter to help the public acquire a true understanding of the new Constitution.

Wasn't meechai confident the last time they tried to pass this?

A true understanding? Its about the military staying in power.

Final draft completed 29 March, committee disbanded three days later.

Let the bug out begin.

Of course it will pass the referendum......regardless of how the people vote!

"He believes that if the charter drafters can make the public fully understand the draft, they will be satisfied with it."

Drafters to public: "Do you understand and are you satisfied with with the new draft?"

Public: "Not sure"

Drafters: "Do you understand bullets and prison?"

Public: "I understand and am satisfied with draft."

CDC’s Meechai confident draft charter will pass public referendum...

or else...

If the counting is done with the same integrity as all those polls...

Good that all the schools are closed for the summer, as there could be a lot of adults needing re-education.

He really does look like a kindly, old gentleman. In fact, he looks a lot like my late grandfather, but without the spine and moral compass he possessed.

Of course it will pass the referendum......regardless of how the people vote!

Maybe they've picked up voting tips from their new best friend China.

Douglas Herd, a former British Foreign Secy, once said that the Chinese don't fix elections etc but they do like to know the outcome in advance !

By the way looking at Meechai with the cap etc where I come from he'd be described as a real ' Seturday Sanny '. gigglem.gif

If Meechai is so confident, he should suggest to the junta government to allow open debate and not intimidate those who has an opinion. He should also warn the junta not to abuse mechanisms to manipulate the referendum like in 2007. Even the EC is asking for tougher criminal acts on charter campaigners which is again is intimidation.

There have been no free all sided debates on what should be in the draft, there have been no free all side debates on TV for people to form an opinion etc etc etc. I have offered to download and print it if and when it comes on line for people around as I did with the 'draft of the Draft a few weeks ago. I got he same response...not interested. If other posters here have similar experiences I just wonder what it means. 'Haven't read it but will down vote it anyway.', 'Haven't read it but will vote for it anyway','Haven't read but won't vote anyway.'
