An unfortunate outcome for anyone to end their life and jumping from a balcony. It's appears, balcony jumping, is becoming negative trend in Thailand.

Can we change the title please mods? I know it sums up what happened, but still........

One of the things I liked best about Australia is the reporting of suicides. It hardly ever happens. No law or regulation, just a kind of agreement between TV, papers, magazines and radio not to report suicides. The only ones you ever hear about is when it's someone in the public eye or when someone jumps from a bridge onto a road which causes some traffic chaos. Even then, I don't remember hearing the word suicide on the news. "The police aren't looking for anyone else in relation to the incident" is the standard blurb in all of the forms of media, but I repeat - because I think it's important - that the vast majority of suicides are NEVER, EVER reported. and on the very rare occasion when they are, it is always followed immediately with a standard blurb to the effect of if you are in any way affected by this story please contact xxx(specialist mental health organisation0) on 99999 (phone number) 24 hours a day with their phone number and web site onscreen. Attempted suicides are never reported even if the person is in the public eye.

The subject of suicide isn't totally ignored, there are current affairs reports and documentaries into the number and causes of suicides, but very rarely is a particular case referred to, it's talked about in general terms.

Just my opinion, but I believe that if anyone suicidal hears about someone doing it, it may make them more inclined to follow suit.

I have had my fair share of depression, but I can't even begin to imagine someone being so unhappy that they see death as the solution. My heart goes out to her friends and family who wlll no doubt always blame themselves for not doing something which may have prevented it.

On another note, my heart also goes out to the person who found her and anyone who has to see this or do the cleaning up. Taking a handfull of pills will leave no mess, easy enough to research on the internet. I suppose if you're that far gone you could not possibly thinking that far ahead.

May she rest in peace.

Do we 'need' a thread like this at all?

No substantiated source

Another recent thread on this forum noted around 4000 suicides in the country each year. We could then have ten threads per day on un-named and potentially unconfirmed deaths

What does this add to a forum for expats?

I suppose it adds as much as the stories involving young drivers getting away with murder, adult video actresses marrying old men, Junta attitude adjustments, and high speed van crashes.

Once again, there is no link provided and no credible/verfiable source for this article.

It is therefore just "rumour" and as such is now CLOSED

If you do not have or cannot provide verifiable/accurate links to a credible "news" source please do not make these type of posts.
