PATTAYA:-- A pick-up got wedged under an 18 wheel truck on the Rayong road this morning killing a passenger but leaving the driver virtually unscathed, reports Thaivisa News.

Police said that the Toyota Vigo had smashed into the side of the truck and been dragged more than 100 metres along the highway.

The accident happened on the Pattaya inbound lane in Pong sub-district early Monday morning.

Vigo driver Pornsak Jinthaisong, 32, from Buriram suffered only minor head injuries but his companion Santhat Buaprom, 30, was pronounced dead at the scene from massive trauma to the head.

Officials took some time using cutting gear to extricate the body from the destroyed vehicle under the lorry that was laden with scrap iron.

Truck driver Khamchan Sirireuang, 33, said he was making a delivery to Laem Chabang when he heard something smash into his trailer and slowed down.

He found the Vigo with the driver alive but the passenger already dead.

Pornsak was breathalysed as investigations into the accident continue.
