NCPO’s meeting confirms readiness to provide assistance to drought-hit citizens

BANGKOK, 29 March 2016 (NNT) - The National Council for Peace and Order has confirmed its readiness to provide urgent assistance to those who have been hit by drought.

Deputy spokesperson of the NCPO Col. Sirichan Ngathong said on Monday that the latest meeting of the council, which was chaired by Gen. Theerachai Nakvanich, discussed the problems of the people, particularly those who have been adversely affected by drought.

Col. Sirichan said that Gen. Theerachai has urged all units to work tirelessly to help those in need by focusing on the distribution of water and providing containers for them.

He also instructed all units to make sure that there there are no cases of overcharging for water supplies.

The NCPO’s Deputy Spokesperson added that the meeting has instructed peace-keeping forces and related local administrative offices to investigate the cause of wild fires and haze in the northern region and to clampdown on all burning activities.

i thought the chinese had fixed the drought smile.png

CHINA HAS embarked on an unprecedented "water diplomacy" mission to alleviate the ongoing drought in Laos, Myanmar, Thailand, Cambodia and Vietnam by discharging massive quantities of fresh water downstream from one of its dams in its southern region.

The emergency water supply from the Chinese Jinghong hydropower station will last one month from March 15 until April 10, marking the first time China has informed downstream countries in advance of its water-discharge schedule, said Nuanla-or Wongpinitwarodom, director of the Mekong River resources management office at the Department of Water Resources.
