Greek parliament to vote on EU-Turkey migrant accord

ATHENS: -- The Greek parliament is expected to vote on Friday on measures putting into practice the EU’s accord with Turkey on the return of refugees and migrants, due to come into effect next week.

The authorities have begun bussing the first of an estimated 6,000 refugees from the port of Piraeus near Athens to other parts of the country.

Mainly from Syria, Iraq and Afghanistan, they are among tens of thousands stuck in Greece since Balkan countries closed their borders.

All migrants who crossed to Greece after March 20 are to be sent back. The policy, which has been “denounced by the UN refugee agency and rights groups’:http://www.euronews.com/2016/03/08/draft-deal-on-migration-crisis-would-see-turkey-and-eu-in-one-in-one-out/, is meant to end the uncontrolled influx of refugees and other migrants in which more than a million people crossed into Europe last year.

Both Greece and Turkey have been rushing through changes to their asylum rules in a race to implement the agreement.

Turkey’s prime minister says the deal should help control numbers and prevent further loss of life.

“This approach will go into effect starting (next Monday) 4 April. For every refugee we take in, one refugee will be sent to Europe. This way, we will achieve a balance, cut off illegal routes, and stop human traffickers, who profit (in such a) cowardly (manner) from those illegal routes,” Ahmet Davutoglu said.

EU border agency Frontex will coordinate the logistics after Greek authorities decide on individual cases. An EU official said it would have ferries, police officers and other escorts ready on Monday for the short trip, mostly likely from the Greek island of Lesbos to Dikili in Turkey.

The number of migrants and refugees arriving in Greece is said to have risen ahead of the agreement.

Italian officials have warned that the deal to restrict the number of migrants travelling via Turkey could increase the flows through Libya to Italy.

Thousands have been rescued from the Mediterranean by the Italian coastguard this week after attempting the dangerous crossing.

More than 1,300 were rescued from boats and rubber dinghies on Wednesday, the coastguard said. Another 1,500 were rescued on Tuesday in 11 separate operations.

I Still can not grasp the lack of will to help

humans by humans

is it time to rethink flag and country, or do we

remain the same indifferent and inherent

society ,

that is a sham,

The whole spectrum of a living valued life

really warrants an overhaul.

It is not human to human for many of these people. The two cultures and religions have rarely been harmonious. the migrants are after a better life and are unwilling to assimilate into European cultures. Can you imagine us westerners coming to Thailand and demanding to take all the temples down as they are offending us or take there state figure picture down from buildings. The Thais and rightly so would tell us to go and leave. We as westerner's assimilate or move out. The whole migrant policy is more of an economic one with people wanting a free schools, welfare benefits and medical care. Only yesterday on the BBC the Afghanistan's prime minister was saying what a disgrace his own people were for leaving his country, for 'a so called better life' The whole Migration issue will only end up with conflict. Just look at the Baltics. Two cultures and religions, side by side and then they kill each other. Multiculturalism doesn't' work in my opinion. Just ask the Scots, Welsh and Irish how they feel about the English and these four countries are more or less the same in religions and culture. Putting two or more different cultures together, whilst looks nice and liberal. has not and I feel in the near future, will never work.

Just as a side note, I don't see other Arab states like Saudi Arabia, Kuwait and Bahrain etc stepping up and saying come to our shores fellow Muslims and brothers. Not at all. Would the migrants want to go to these places anyway? Having lived there I would not. Europe is being diluted with so called diluted with people heritage and identity. I fell sorry for the Greeks. They are being held to ransom and forced to allow these Migrants in. turkey is using the situation to get membership into the EU. I foresee some dark times ahead for Europe and the current situation.

Bury your head and the situation will go away !

No it won't go away. It will get worse unless it is sorted out.

Many of these migrants come from countries that have been screwed up due to their culture, religion and attitudes.

Their fellow Muslim countries don't want them, don't accept them, and have no intentions to. Ask yourself why that is?

This is not our problem. We Europeans and Americans have enough problems of our own.

Many of these economic migrants want what Europe will give them free - education, health care, accommodation, social services and benefits - but they do not want and are unwilling to change anything about themselves - the same religion, attitudes, culture and behaviors that screwed their country up. They want to come to your country, take everything and make demands as they see fit whilst offering no thanks, courtesy and certainly no respect.

So you believe all that's ok? That we should just hand over everything to Muslim economic migrants from the Middle East and Africa and then pat ourselves on the back and tell ourselves how compassionate we are? Naive at best.

Trying to help them, with aid, lots of aid, advice, some good advice, in their own countries hasn't worked. So now they want to come and treat our countries like they treated their own.

I suggest that the next time you see some body begging on the street for money with a kid in their hands, rather than give them money, invite them into your home for food, shelter, clothing, and medical care. Do that with every one you see until your house is overrun and you can't afford to take care of them and they demand that you feed them, house them and suggest that there is no room for you in the house anymore.

grab what they can while they have the slim chance , so the solution is what, exterminate them ? give them half the world and ban them from leaving that half?

No, the solution is to set up and protect camps in Syria and Iraq to house these folk humanely, until the day they can go back home to rebuild both their lives and nation. The solution is not in letting them bring their problems to our world. And who would ever consider giving them half the world?
