Ok Tropo well if you dismiss someones claims as lies then you could quite easily say that none of this thread is true. I'm not sure why you are so sure that they are not from the Phillipines? Or do you believe they don't exist at all?

Details of their location has already been posted in this thread, I suggest you read back a few pages. I look forward to seeing the pics! :o

I manage a casino on the Thai/Cambodian border and I have over 20 Phillipina/o's working for me, as well as many more Thai's and Cambodian's, I speak Thai, Khmer and can swear like a trooper in Tagalog, so i feel that I am in a position to say that I have been approached on Sukhumvit by a Phillipino, complementing me on my shoes, and asking me "where did i get them from"

I told him 'Cambodia' hoping for a swift end to the unwanted conversation and when he continued on with what was obviously a rehearsed scam I asked him in Thai why he was interested in my shoes, to which I got no reply.

I have no real issue with Thai's having a crack at you in their own country, but when some scamming Phillipino tries to scam me (very unsuccessfully might I add) in Bangkok giving Thai's a bad name in their own capitol, well then thats really poor form.

I just hope that the Thai police do their best with them when they catch these con artists, as they are a PLAGUE that needs to be cured from the streets of Bangkok.

Ok, let's get back to the OP's original post:

Spaniel said:

Quote:

"Over the years I have been stopped occasionally on Sukumvit by these guys (who I think are Filipinos) passing themselves off as Thais. They usually ask something like where did you get those nice shoes or something like that to get a conversation started. They all ask where are you from and when you tell them they always reply that they have a sister/cousin/brother there going to school. That's usually when I tell them to get lost. My question, has anyone ever actually hung around to find out what these guys are up to? I'm sure they are somehow trying to seperate you from your money but what exactly is the scam? Also has anyone ever actually gotten their fortune told by one of the Indian fortune tellers that prowl around Sukumvit?"

Read that again yourself, and tell me that's not trolling. It's a vague ramble that contradicts itself in the first line ie. Filipinos passing themselves off as Thai. Apparently they disguise themselves as Thai by speaking American English.

I'm sorry if I missed the exact location, but "Sukumvit" (the OP can't even spell it correctly) is a long road, so maybe you could do me a favour and give a precise location as I am interested to see these guys for myself...which was YOUR suggestion.

And you just joined this forum to say that?

You are not qualified at all, as what you say cannot be verified and you're probably an existing member using a fake nic.

Which casino? Where exactly is it? Where are you from? What are your qualifications? Do you recruit Filipinos from Thailand, Cambodia, or directly from the Philippines?

This is an internet board, and as such it's possible to be anything you please. Your dream today is to be a casino manager. Knock yourself out.

It would fool many a tourist especially if it's there first time in Asia.

I think you suggested it didn't you, offering to take pics and such? Try for them outside Times Square building up by Asoke where the Ball in Hand bar is.

Nothing that can be said on this board can be verified unless we do background checks on all the posters here and hire a PI to check out there story. So perhaps not the best argument against something you don't agree with.

Why are you so concerned about this anyway? Do you really believe there are no Filipino scammers in Thailand? :o

You're the one that suggested that I pop down and say hello. Thank you for giving an exact location.

I told you what I believe ie. that you and Spaniel along with a few other members are trolling on this thread. I don't believe anything until I see evidence of it, and so far you gentlemen have provided nothing at all except evidence of your prejudice toward Filipinos.

Theres no prejudice towards Filipinos here, we are not talking about an entire nation of people, just a couple of scamsters on a road in Bangkok. If you can find one quote from me on here that shows racism towards Filipinos then lets see it.

You've got your head stuck in the sand mate, a couple of Filipinos are working scam on the Suk road and they have been pointed out on here. Why you straight away jump to the conclusion that we must all be racist, liars and trollling just shows how illogical your mind works.

And why do you think that this is such an impossibilty anyway? Because Thailand doesn't have a land border with the Phillipines?

By the sounds of it, you've got your whole body stuck in the sand....mate!

I didn't start out debating with you over the Filipino prejudice/no-prejudice issue, but out of 150 or so posts in this thread, maybe a third are yours, so maybe you'd like to explain why you're so obsessed is with this topic.

I've already reposted the OP's original post, which is vague by anyone's analysis, and when someone comes along with comments like "I think they were Filipino" without any evidence, and subsequent posters start commenting on conversations they've had with these scammers, prejudice comes out clear and strong.

You're so pro-Thai, it's impossible for you to think logically.

Yep, a third of mine coz I have to deal with the likes of you.

Why do you think I'm so pro Thai? If you read my posts I said that the majority of the time this scam is pulled its by Thais but occaisionally shock horror the Filipinos pull it in Bangkok as well.

Did you miss that bit? :o

The evidence was that they spoke Filipino language. If you don't believe anything you read and disagree with do you really think your of the right age to be holding a discussion with adults?

What evidence would you like us to gather for you?

If you think there is prejudice there then you certainly don't understand the meaning of the word.

Anyway this is beside the point, we have given you the location and you have said that you would go down there to take some pics for us. I look forward to seeing them, are you doing this tomorrow?

Well Tropo if you want to visit me sent me a PM and I will tell you which casino in Poipet I run, I am from Australia, married to a Thai, have one child, as for my qualifications, I have 12 years on the gaming floor, your more than welcome to come to Poipet and we can have a beer and a chat about my work history. I get sent around 20 resumes per month from the Phillipines.

Are you Fillipino ? as you seem to be very offended at the thought of anyone suggesting that they could ever do anything thats not 100% above board.

Do you think I have nice shoes ?

Knock yourself out.

You are making yourself appear foolish. Your views are biased due to the fact that you have a Filipina girlfriend. Good for you!

However, you must know in your heart that Philippine scammers and con-men and don't forget con-women have raised dishonesty into an art form. The Philippine race IMHO are a nation of mendicants, liars and cheats.

I have lived there, I know. They are friendly people but tainted. I can recognise a Philippine national with just a cursory glance. Their distinctive spoken word is easy to recognise.

Good luck for the future Tropo.

Ok Tropo, I will give you this one, there are some racist comments on this thread. :o

So do you disagree?

During my time spent in the Philippines I experienced the three previous mentioned said traits; perhaps those said traits are considered strengths when dealing with wealthy foreign visitors in the Philippines.

I am not racist. I just speak as I see and from what I experience.

Everyone is entitled to their views. Speak the truth, shame the devil.

Excellent Post.

Philippine nationality male and females use their good knowledge of the English language to scam other first world English speaking nationals.

Their perfidy is pernicious and treacherous. I lived in Manila for a while and I can attest that I experienced attempted scams on a daily basis, from taxi drivers, to shopkeepers, to street vendors, to whores.

The Philippines is the most corrupt nation on earth. I would trust Africa with my Grandmother in comparison.

Apart from that, they are really friendly people. :o

For the record I would like to state that I do not share libya 115's opinions about the Philippines, and during my time there I don't recall anyone trying to scam me.

Then your experience(s) in the Philippines must be sui generis.

I do disagree, its a bit of a broad brush to be painting an entire nation with don't you think?

I've experienced a lot of money grabbing Thai people, but not everyones like that and it'd be quite prejudice and wrong for me to say the Thai race is money grabbing.

Just because an opinion is entitled, it doesn't mean that it's correct.

The point I was disputing was your comment that the Philippines is the most corrupt nation on earth. That is nonsense, but by disputing that, I'm not saying there is no corruption there.

Your comments are definitely tainted by extreme prejudice and you're making a fool out of yourself in the process.

Good luck for the future Libya.

I will always hold my arms aloft and stand corrected if necessary.

'Money-Grabbing' is quite different than dishonesty. I am very happy with the Thai mentality with regards money. The culture is different.

Many of my opinions are incorrect in another persons view.

Actually BKK, I haven't used the term racist at all. Thais and Filipinos belong to the same race....therefore I've termed it prejudice but maybe "foreign jingoism" would be more accurate to explain the ramblings of people like Libya.

You are probably correct with regards corrupt countries. I understand that Bangladesh is rather corrupt, reading from recent broadsheet fact-files.

However, I hope that I am not appearing prejudice, but my experiences whilst residing in the Philippines must be shared. I am sorry if it offends. I speak only the truth.

I'd say racism is incorrect by most people's views, could be time to change yours.

ok, Tropo, just seen your post, I termed it racism and I'm sure you can see the dfference between discussing a couple of Filipinos on Suk road and prejudging an entire nation now.
