re entry permit

Featured Replies

I have an extension based on retirement valid until 21 Dec 2016.

I will leave for the UK on 13th April and am not sure if I will be back by the above date.

If I get a single re entry permit and return later than 21st Dec what will happen at the airport immigration ?

I realise that after the 21st Dec,if I am back here, that I will have to re apply for another extension, but I am unsure of the consequences of re entering the country after it expires?

thankyou

If you re-enter the country after Dec 21 you will receive a 30 day "visa exempt" entry.

A re-entry permit would only be valid for the duration of your extension.

To regain an extension means you will have to obtain another "O" visa before you can apply for an extension of stay.

So I will have to get another O visa from the Thai embassy before I return then.

That's fine and I will do that.

I hated doing the dangerous (by minivan) 90 day ' excursions' to Cambodia, and this was thr reason I went for an extension based on retirement route.

How soon after entry to Thailand can I re apply for this extension?

Just beware, however, that the Royal Thai Embassy in London will only issue you with a fresh single-entry non-O visa by virtue of being aged 50 or over if you are in receipt of the UK State Pension. You should take your DWP letter with you since they will require to see this as the necessary financial proof.

If you are under 65 it may be possible for you to obtain a single-entry non-O visa at 1 of the honorary UK consulates (Birmingham, Cardiff, Liverpool, Glasgow or Hull).

Upon your return to Thailand you will then be admitted for 90 days from your re-entry date (as opposed to the starting date of your new non-O Visa). You will be able to apply for an extension of stay at your local immigration office within 30 days of the expiry of your new "Admitted Until" date - or even 45 days beforehand in the case of certain immigration offices (e.g. Chaengwattana, Jomtien and Chiang Mai).

Definitely no need for a border run in 1 of the manically-driven minivans which my wife and I frequently witness on Highway 3 in our neck of the woods thundering their way to or from the Cambodian border!smile.png

  • Within the last 30 (45 at some offices) days of your 90 day entry.
