Harbor Dept launches safety measures during Songkran festival

KANCHANABURI, 6 April 2016 (NNT) - Khanithaya Roongkrue, director of the Harbor Department's Kanchanaburi Regional Office, said that the agency has prepared safety measures for the 2016 Songkran festival regarding public uses of piers.

The department has called on pontoon owners to repair any damaged signs which should clearly state the maximum number and weight of passengers which they can accommodate at a time. Every pontoon must be equipped with life jackets while boat owners are suggested to inspect the conditions of their boats to ensure safety.

The maximum number of passengers should be stated on a label attached to the boat's side while the life-saving equipment must be in good condition.

I can hear the rush of tourists heading to the piers so they can be safe during Songkran. Now that there are legible signs, everyone will be law abiding and safety conscious.
