NAKHON SAWAN:-- Police are set to reopen an investigation into the sensational case that captivated Nakhon Sawan two years ago when a girl is said to have murdered her mother for refusing to let her go out.

Claims of superstitious rituals point to a third party, they say.

The 16 year old called B and her boyfriend Nathee Srimuang ,23, were jailed for murdering Chompunut Masjaeng in December 2014. They admitted the killing and burying the body in a shallow grave next to the house in Bang Muang district of the province some 300 kilometres north of Bangkok.

Relatives have appealed to the Prime minister's office to reopen the case after the daughter wrote a letter from prison. The guilt of the girl and Nathee is not thought to be in doubt but relatives said another man, thought to be the girl's stepfather referred to as "Rang" is also claimed to be involved in the case.

Chompunut was bludgeoned to death with a house brick as she slept in her bed.

Apisak Phungjiam,47, from a nearby village has asked for the case to be reopened and told police about the letter from B. "This crime could not have been done by those two alone." He claimed.

He said there was evidence that the stepfather was involved with another woman and he had been discovered. He claimed the murder was more about silencing her and inheritance than the girl being grounded.

And in another twist Apisak suggested that there were signs that whoever buried the body had knowledge of superstitious rituals that young people would not know about. These included markings on the grave and the fact that a five baht coin was wedged in the victim's throat - a move to silence the spirit even after death.

Furthermore, there were complaints about the behaviour of "Rang" who is said to be a "Mr Big" in the gambling scene associated with cock fighting and fish fighting in the Nakhon Sawan area.

Police representative Santi Chainiramai in accepting the new complaints said that the matters raised would be followed up.

Editor's note: There is also a Thai custom of placing money in the mouth of the dead for cremations to ensure wealth and good fortune in the next life.

So even spirits are corrupt in Thailand. cheesy.gifcheesy.gifcheesy.gif

The Italians would leave a dead fish at the scene.

Would seem that money buys silence.
