Fined for buying sex: French parliament votes to punish prostitutes' clients



PARIS: -- Following a final vote in parliament on Wednesday, France has become the latest European country to punish prostitutes’ clients who will face a 1,500 euro fine if caught buying sex.

The bill includes measures to try to help sex workers leave the industry but critics claim the new law will heighten secrecy, putting prostitutes at greater risk of being attacked.

In passing the legislation, France has become the fifth European country to punish prostitutes’ clients, following Sweden which pioneered the move in 1999, Norway, Iceland and the United Kingdom.

The funny thing is that the ones who pass these laws are the biggest consumers of escorts and hookers, but they have their secret networks setup already... Many do children as well... But they want to make sure that an old and ugly man can never touch a woman again... The world is going to such <deleted> its unbelievable.

i am proud to say nz was the first make it legal, people are generally surprised this this only happened a little over 10 years ago. where is the crime? where is the victim? now that it is mostly advertised online with sites like adultworks even the prudes dont have to be offended by seeing the girls on the streets. legalise it, tax it, make it safe. how can the world be so stupid to think it can be stopped?

Germany is proud of its tradition of giving qualified young entrepreneurs a business-friendly environment, Czechs, Bulgarians, Romanians, you name it. "prostitution" means sexual intercourse, or any other act, or the commission of any other act in order to gratify the sexual desire of another person in a promiscuous manner in return for money or any other benefit, irrespective of whether the person who accepts the act and the person who commits the act are of the same sex or not;

Section 9. Any person who procures, seduces or takes away any person for the prostitution of such person, even with her or his consent and irrespective of whether the various acts which constitute an offence are committed within or outside the Kingdom, shall be liable to imprisonment for a term of one to ten years and to a fine of twenty thousand to two hundred thousand Baht.

Section 4, It's a bad translation, better would be 'lewd manner', which is is the crime, not the selling sex.

Like everything in Thailand, sex for payment, do it politely and it's OK.

Can you please cite a Thai Lawyer or judge describing how bottled water is legal...

Actually two Thai lawyers asserted the legality of selling sex privately in a series of articles in the Bangkok Post, but the articles are now behind a paywall and I posting links would break forum rules.
