Visa advice

Featured Replies

Hi

I was thinking about coming to Thailand from the UK for two/three months as I have recently lost my job and wanted to take some time off.

I see that you don't need a Visa for up to 30 days however you can get a tourist visa at a cost for 60 days from the start of your visit. Does this mean that I can only stay in Thailand for a maximum of 30 days? I am sure I have heard people say in the past that you can stay for 90 days.

I also got into trouble when I was younger and have a drugs charge, will this affect my chances if getting a Visa?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

An Exemption Entry (entry allowed without prior purchase of a tourist visa) is good for 30 days - plus a 30 day Extension is available at a local Thai Immigration office for 1900 Baht. Total 60 days max.

A Single Entry Tourist Visa - SETV can be purchased at a Thai Embassy or Consulate -- good for 60 days - plus a 30 day Extension is available at a local Thai Immigration office in Thailand for 1900 Baht.. Total 90 days max.

An old drug charge will not be looked at ....

For a tourist visa, a criminal record is not an issue. If you want to stay 90 days, get a single entry tourist visa (60 days) which you can extend for an additional 30 days when in Thailand for 1,900 baht. You can apply for the visa by post to the London Embassy, or apply in person at the embassy or a number of consulates dotted around the country.

  • You should get a tourist visa (SETV) before travelling.

A SETV gives 60 days on entry that can be extended by 30 days at an immigration office for 1,900 baht. Total of 90 days.

If you travel without a Visa you will need an onward flight out of Thailand within 30 days of arrival otherwise the airline might not let you fly.

If you travel with a visa no onward flight is needed.

Your drug charge will not stop you getting a visa.

Just to add to that.

Do not, under any circumstance, become involved with the drug scene in Thailand or anywhere in SE Asia. The penalties are draconian.
