Multiple ED with language school

Featured Replies

Hello,

I am German national staying in Thailand on a B-Visa + WP. Now my contract will end in July and I would like to stay in Thailand another year.

Actually, I would really love to learn Thai as I lived here for quite some time but still can't speak the language. So I would like to study in a language school in Bangkok and get an ED Visa. From what I read in this forum the extensions of the Single Entry ED Visa seem to be kinda problematic. As I planned to be in Germany in August anyway, I was thinking if I can get a 1 Year Multiple Entry ED from there, so I wouldn't have to extend my Visa at immigration all the time and instead just leave the country every 90 days. The language school told me that it is still possible to get a Multiple ED for studying Thai in the US, but they didn't have any information about Germany. Does anyone know if that is still possible?

Thanks, Dan

Apply for the mutliple entry ed visa with an invitation letter from the school at the honorary consulate in stuttgart.

So there are different ED visas available?

There is a single and a multiple entry Ed visa.

Within SE Asia the multiple entry version will not be issued.

Thank you!

I haven´t looked into the details of the ED visas yet but thought that since some "recent" changes that there are now only ED visas with 3 months validity but no longer the 12 months ED visas. So when I travel back to Germany for family visits, I could actually apply for an ED visa that gives me 12 months where I only have to leave Thailand every 90 days? Would be a good option once the METV I plan to get expires.

You should discuss that with the respective honorary consulate.

You would have to have, I suspect, supportive paperwork from a school you had enrolled with before an Ed visa was issued.

Sure ... I am just surprised to read that there is still a 12 month Non ED visa available. As I said, I thought they only issues ED visas for 3 months and that I then would have to apply for an extension every 3 months.

So if there were an ED visa that allows a 12 months stay without the need to apply for an extension, then this would be of huge interest to me.
