Six slightly injured in Yala bomb blast

YALA: -- Six police officers were injured in a homemade bomb on explosion shortly after they went out in pickup truck on a routine patrol last night to give protection to vehicles passing the Highway 410 from Yala to Betong.


The explosion occurred at the U-turn in front of Thantho hospital in Thantho district.

The officers signed the on duty log book in front of the hospital before going on a one kilometre patrol from the hospital station to the Tjantho market.

As the pickup truck they were traveling in was making a U-turn, a bomb was detonated.

The truck was damaged and six officers were slightly injured.

A brief exchange of fire followed before the assailants would escape under cover of darkness.

All the injured police officers were immediately rushed Thamtho hospital where their conditions were described not serious.

Explosive ordnance disposal (EOD) police were later called in to clear the scene and the road and section in front of the hospital temporarily closed to traffic to facilitate bomb clearance.
