Transport Min orders closer watch against accidents at rail crossings

BANGKOK, 12 April 2016 (NNT) – The Ministry of Transport has assigned railway officials to better manage traffic at railway crossings in a bid to prevent accidents as a large number of holidaymakers are embarking on their journeys.

Transport Minister Arkhom Termpittayapaisith reported that people have already begun traveling back to their hometowns to celebrate the Songkran Festival since the past weekend.

Therefore, he called on all related agencies to ensure convenience for all commuters and study past mistakes in order to improve traffic management this year, especially on April 12 and 13 when the roads are expected to be most congested.

In addition, Mr Arkhom has instructed the State Railway of Thailand to seek cooperation from its officials in each area in paying special attention to motorists crossing railway tracks as many accidents occurred in the past.

" study past mistakes "

a totally new way of thinking !

I am so bewildered and flabbergasted

i need to sit down and take it all in.

i have a new word for you Mr Arkhom

IMPLEMENTATION !

Those words jumped out at me too!

Notwithstanding the totally unprecedented thought process, obviously he meant other peoples' mistakes - someone in authority admitting to their own mistakes would almost be too much to take!

"... study past mistakes ..."

By the time they complete that task, cars and trains will be obsolete.

Does this mean we will now see railway officials directing traffic at every crossing when a train approaches ?

A highly dangerous occupation if what happens at the controlled crossing in my area is anything to go by as the there's rear end collisions and the barriers taken out by drivers speeding up in an effort to get through before actually having to stop and wait for the train to pass.

Putt the automatic barricades up you morons.whistling.gif

This place is mind boggling.... no wonder so many seem confused; myself included. I'm accustomed to using logic, rule of law, consistency, taking responsibility, honesty etc. so here I don't understand much of what Thais do.

"I think I can make it", been said by many who found out

the train was going faster than they thought.

If/when they start operating those high speed trains,I

hope they will have full barrier gates (not the half gates

as you know they will still try to drive around them)

installed at ALL road crossings of the rail lines.

Didn't the health ministry take of this problem, last week?

ah so government officials from the transport ministry are going to be driving the buses now?

No, from the public health ministry.

What does that mean "orders closer watch against accidents". Does it perhaps meant that you order people to look better before xing, or somebody stationed at the xing, warning for oncoming trains?

Rather confusing.

I can see that working actually pretty well but without the "against": you know they always forget something :).

Result would most probably be:"orders closer watch against accidents" .

Watch closely, maybe take some picture or a video and share on youtube :)

"Ok Boss, understood" :)

Why?? seems like a Fools approach,,,,,,,,Double booms closing of the road with lights works all over the world ,,,,thumbsup.gif

Incompetent. It would be nice if Thailand would care more of people's lives by not only installing automated signaling RR gates at ALL train crossings, but think smarter when designing roads where there are train crossings.

Where I am currently traveling I have never before seen RR track crossings where the roads are positioned where it is not easy to see if a train is approaching. Picture this: normal situation is e.g. Your vehicle and road are on a road headed North. This road goes North and South. When approaching a RR crossing, the tracks travel East and West. This is the common layout of roads and RR crossings. But not here!

The road heading North and South but the RR tracks are Northwest and Southeast. Very difficult because you have to first stop and turn your head/body around to look. It's not difficult to understand why accidents happen.

It would be nice to have some funds allocated to make these areas safe.

The way Thai people seem to drive anything, the train will "win" on crossings.

Guards, gates, whatever help a bit, but even then the road users don't think.

And the number of illegal crossings is huge.

No way all those crossing can be made more safe.
