Drought continues to ravage in several provinces

NAKHON RATCHASIMA, 12 April 2016, (NNT) - Military officials and related government agencies have been distributing water to drought affected areas, as harsh weather conditions continue affecting the country.

Severe drought sparked wildfires on a plain in Nakhon Ratchasima's Phimai district before spreading to nearby coconut plantations, destroying more than 40 rai of farmland and about 300 coconut trees. It took firefighters about 40 minutes to extinguish the blaze.

Meanwhile in Phang Nga, the province administration and related units dispatched officials to lay pipelines connecting raw water pumping stations in Thai Mueang district to a pond in the residential area.

The move was necessary to produce fresh water after sea water mixed with the station's water sources, disrupting supplies to an area of 2,000 households.

Mobile Development Unit One-Five in Uthai Thani province dispatched officials to produce fresh water for residents in Ban Rai district.

They also deployed water trucks to distribute water supplies to local residents affected by the ongoing drought.

And the military government are doing what to help? Absolutely nothing! Its dig your own hole if you want water in all rural areas now. That's Thai self sufficiency 21st century style.

Mmmmm could this be history repeating itself once again.....?

This planet moves in cycles...many previous man made changes have had massive effects on different areas.

Just over the border in Cambodia is proof.

if you cut down all the trees and dick around with the environment you pay a high price !

Don't blame global warming ... the planet does not slash and burn and chop and re-route water and suck and dam and waste it.

Water goes to water, there used to be the fifth largest river system flowing through this region but the chinese, Lao and Thais have screwed that up and want to screw it more and more with even more dams on the Mekong. India, Bangladesh and Pakistan are the same. Chopping down trees, damming rivers, then when the Monsoon rains come...Oh no a flood ! Why, because the trees held the soil together and kept the water in the ground and down the river courses are not there anymore.

Meanwhile Babu, Abdul and his ignorant mates blame the west for Carbon pollution their governments for not doing enough for them !!! Eh !!! they don't know it rains every year ?

Is it just me because I am on a bicycle or walking ? That notices it can feel about 6 or 7 degrees cooler on a stretch of road that has thick vegetation on both sides compared to when you have buildings its a boiling oven around you.....People in cars have no notion of this.

The concrete jungles are heating up the planet and the trees that used to cool and create moisture are gone.... nuff said....!!!

really tragic so let's go and waste billions gallons more over next few days

The pollution coming out of a Thai truck/bus is probably 500 times a standard car in Europe.they have no idea of Eco and this country would be knee deep in waste if the poor never collected for recycling.if it don't make money it don't matter, that's the true Thai way.hydroponics are the future way to deal with extreme dry areas.they use recirculating water.thats how they deal with it in Israel and Australia.this country doesn't have a clue.they can't even form a goverment.

If you cannot read English or Thai and have not read newspaper reports over the last few months about what the military has done, then sadly there is no hope for you.

You are happiest when you are bashing this government and making no comments about previous governments.

If this is the best you can do then you really need do to some research before you post.

44 degrees reached yesterday at Sukhothai, it tied the highest temperature ever recorded in Thailand in the past 56 years.

We have to go back to 1960 find a higher temperature in Thailand, when Uttaradit recorded 44.5C.

Central Thailand tied its highest temperature ever with 43.5C at Kanchanaburi, while Southern Thailand beats its highest temperature ever with 42.0C at Nong Phlub Agromet.

Lots of stations set their hottest temperature on record yesterday. Particularly impressive the 38 degrees (100.4F) at Koh Samui.

I'm in the heart of drought-stricken Isaan today, and the city/town/village roads are awash with water from pick-up trucks with their throwers-from-barrels revellers, from water hoses, and from road-side water buckets.

From the locals' perspective, it's a bottomless barrel.

Right to the last drop.

Could YOU do any better?

I am not supporting them but merely pointing out that if you do ANY research at all you will find that this government inherited the water problems from previous governments (as did previous governments) but they have done many positive things.

Why don't you do some research as well before you post. There is a lot out there on the internet.

Right to the last drop.

I went into the "big" village of Klong Lan Pattana this afternoon about 4.30 pm and there wasn't a sign of Songkran water thowing at all.

Apparently found their last drop already.

Well said every government around the world is responsible for these droughts and floods. Tearing down trees for grazing and crops ,diverting the rivers and building huge hydro electric dams. The amount of water that comes down the Mekong is far toomuch to be comnrolled but anyone who tries to explain this is accused of halting progress, so many country folk are promised you will have electric 247 you wil have flushing toilets but how we distribute the electric we arent sure ,where does you body waste go oooh hadnt thought of that we will have to postpone for a while which means never

Further to my last post - and thanks for all the likes. I was thinking more on the subject. Monsoon, a word we now associate, wrongly, with rain. It is a warm wind, that results in rain.

This winds blow in from the Andaman and Indian Ocean carrying massive amounts of moisture with it, but it seems to me that it is not meeting the same type of land mass it used to do.

Just 70+ years ago this S.E. Asian region was a massive rain forest. Now that this has been virtually destroyed over a very, very large area there has to be a knock on effect that we see now. These temperatures cannot just be blamed on a rise in carbon gases.

As I mentioned already water goes to water - static charges I think ? - So with no mighty Mekong and all other rivers re-routed and drying up there is not the chance for major rain cloud masses to form.

There is a reason old style Thai houses are built up on 10 foor wooden pillars, it used to rain a lot !

The next problem for now is that the land has dried up to a baked hard surface and when it does rain the water takes a long time to soak in and we get floods.

Its a mess that, sadly I think is past fixing.
