Penang Royal Thai Consulate Temporary Relocation and Closure

Featured Replies

  • Popular Post

Hey everyone

I was at the Thai Consulate in Penang today and they had a sign up about temporary relocation of the Consulate and an unscheduled 2-day closure whilst they relocate it later in April. I did a quick search on the forum and could not see anyone having posted about this, so here are the details:

The new location appears to be on the same road as the current place, currently at 1 Jalan Tunku Abdul Rahman, the new address being:

12 Jalan Tunku Abdul Rahman, Penang 10350

The Consulate will have an unscheduled closure on Friday 22nd April and Monday 25th April 2016, reopening at the new temporary location on Tuesday 26th April. Anyone planning to go to Penang around this time should allow for the unscheduled closures and plan flights / hotels / van trips accordingly.

As for the reason: there were a lot of workmen around, plus banging and drilling going on at the side and behind the Consulate. So it appears they are doing renovations on the whole building and hence the temporary relocation.

There was nothing on the sign to say how long the Consulate will be temporarily relocated.

Apologies if this was already posted elsewhere and I hope it helps save someone some trouble.

Thank you for your input, much appreciated.

Bad news for me. Booked flight already on the sunday leaving tuesday. And apparently there is no way to get a setv same day.

Im going there 10 may. What adress should I head to please?

Sorry to hear that syke1912. At least you have forewarning. Any chance of changing the flights for a small fee...? Most airlines seem to allow flight changes, they just don't allow you to cancel and expect a refund.

If you are handing in your visa application on the morning of Tuesday 26th (before 12:00 noon), it will be 2:00pm on Wednesday 27th when you will receive the passport back. It's a 30 to 40 minute ride to the airport, so the earliest flight you could reasonably expect to make on the 27th is 16:00.

Hey BeefSlapper

On the sign, there was no indication of how long the temporary relocation would be so it could be either number 1 or number 12. As mentioned above, it's the same road, so either 5 minutes extra walk or an extra minute in the taxi. Hopefully not a big issue. It's more the unscheduled 2-day closure that is likely to cause some people issues.

Thanks. Ill try to do that. Airasia has daily flights leaving at 16:55

Hi Syke1912

Also it might be worth keeping an eye on their website for any updates:

http://www.thaiembassy.org/penang/

Although that may not be much help as there does not appear to be any notification on their website about the 2-day closure mentioned above.

Google Maps has this image for new location. Also states it is 120 meters from current location. Two minute walk time.

Does anyone know if the Consulate is still at the temporary address? Or Moved back to the old one?

Thanks.

Thanks.

For anyone that wants to know, I got a reply to my email from the Thai Consulate in Penang.

As of today 18/08/16, they are still at their temporary address at No.12 Jalan Tunkun Abdul Rahman.
