Fish farm in Phang Nga donates 35k giant grouper for research

PHANG NGA, 14 April 2016 (NNT) - A tour operator in Phang Nga province has donated a 35-kilogram female giant grouper to the Phang Nga Coastal Fisheries Research and Development Center to be studied and bred.

Thanakorn Mitwong, the owner of the fish, revealed that he had purchased the fish to be displayed as part of his boat tour in order for tourists to study the life of giant groupers. Once his boat tour ceased operations, he decided to put the fish to good use and donate it for scientific study and breeding.

Giant groupers are the largest bony fish found in coral reefs. They can grow to 2.5 meters long and weigh up to 400 kilograms.
