KORAT: -- Three people including a ten year old child died when a pick up truck collided with a lorry carrying vegetables to market yesterday in Korat.

The pick up ended up completely crushed between the lorry and an audio systems shop in the Dan Khun Thot area, Daily News reports

It is thought that Taweesak Lawa, a native of Nakorn Ratchasima, fell asleep at the wheel. The ten wheel truck driver Noppaporn Khamkhaeng, 39, was found to have no alcohol in his system. He was on his way from Mae Sot, Tak, to a market in Korat.

A witness said that the pick-up lost control after veering suddenly into the central barrier before colliding with the lorry. Also dead in the Isuzu were an unnamed woman and a child of about ten years.

Looking at the damaged vehicle, it appears that the pick up was traveling at a high rate of speed within city limits. Why not do a blood alcohol level test before suggesting that he fell asleep at the wheel, when it is just as likely that he might have been inebriated? Either way, it is a pity that once again, other lives were lost due to reckless driving.

Again this tragic incident may well have been avoided if not for the sheer speed Thai drivers do thru' towns/cities at night.

They hardly back off from the speed they were doing out on the highway prior to entering a township..the traffic-lights in the built-up areas are flashing, so these drivers just barrel-on thru'

If something goes wrong, then it goes horribly wrong at these speeds...But it'll be just the same 5, or 10 yrs from now. RiP.

As usual a long and involved investigation compelted in 5 minutes, but then of course Thai accidents are different and anyone not Thai doesn't understand.

Now, ask yourself: which is quicker, and which is an utter waste of time when there is a checkpoint to sleep near?

Pick up and a veg truck , there has to be a joke to be made there. Soz guys very sad story, especially as there is a kid involved too, but it would seem that there are so many jokers on the roads everyday, it just had to be done.
