BANGKOK: -- Silom road ended its two-day Songkran water festival peacefully last night with funs and happiness enjoyed by most foreign visitors and impressed by the ways their Thai guests treating them with smiles.

Most promised to return again with their kids and friends for this event they never experienced before in their countries

Yesterday, Silom, Bangkok’s busiest financial and business hub, drew over 100,000 visitors to enter the “water battle” with their water pistols, a clear indication of the popularity of the location as a place to celebrate Thailand’s famous water festival for both locals and foreigners.

A Langschmidt family of four from the Netherlands said they have specifically chosen to spend their holiday to coincide with Songkran.

The parents said that they desired their children to personally experience the joys and happiness of the festival themselves.

They revealed that they were very impressed with the festivities and were adhering to the official measures to conserve water by bringing along small handheld water pistols to join in the fun.

They said they liked Songkran very much as it was quite exciting, because this kind of event never had in Holland.

“This is a very nice event and we love to be here especially here at Silom because it is the most crowded place in Bangkok,” the father said.

It is the same mood shared by a group of Malaysians who were here for the first time.

They said that they had been invited by friends to come here many times and when they finally had the opportunity, and were not disappointed.

They all stated that they were very impressed as wherever they went they only saw smiling happy faces and were determined to return again.

“It’s my first time. It’s a lot of fun. We really love it!” a Malaysian office girl said.

The water battle ended at 9 pm last night peacefully as stated by the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration which said it needed until midnight to clear and clean the area before opening the road to traffic.

Tourist police posted at strategic locations along Silom road from 6.00 am to 9.00 pm to keep peace and order along with soldiers said so far there have been 500 reports of purse snatching in Silom area.

They said the majority of foreign tourists here this year are from the Asian countries such as Myanmar, Singapore, Vietnam and Malaysia which differs from previous years when the majority was from Europe.

This year the police were told to observe five restrictions.

They are safety, no nudity, no powders, no alcohol and no high-pressure water guns.

The police said overall, this year’s celebrations at Silom have been very successful with only a small number of foreign tourists being warned for being improperly dressed.

They said these efforts were to ensure that Thailand’s famed Songkran festival remains a beautiful and endearing event to be remembered.

Damn all these people going out and having fun. Why cant they be like the miserable old bastards on here and sit in moaning all day long.

This grumpy old bastard stayed dry and observed it for the skywalk on my way to morning coffee and it looked pretty fun with music and all.

It s good fun and goes on for all of 2/3 days a year. A chance for people who earn very little to get out and enjoy themselves.

Yet all these old mongers from overseas don't like it.

They all moan about the Thai government keeping the people down, yet on the few days a year they can get out and have some fun the people who moan they are keep down moan about them having fun.

Still whats a moaner to do other than moan ?

Am I moaning ?

I haven't seen a single police officer or road check here in Thanyaburi since the beginning of Songkran, but what I have seen are plenty of trucks with many people in the back throwing water from a large barrel.
