Myself, my fiancee and my child (all UK born) are emigrating to LOS from the UK in a few weeks as I have secured employment. Once in LOS my employer will then help me begin the WP application process. The consulate in the UK has said I need a Non-B type visa and my partner and son will travel on NON-O type. My Question is .. Do I apply for a single-entry or multiple entry? My employer has said I will not get a Multiple entry visa - is this right? Whats the difference? :o

A multi entry is valid for one year and allows you to enter for 90 days at a time. If you have employment that will allow extensions of stay from immigration all you should need is a single entry visa and after you get the work permit you obtain a one year extension of stay from immigration.

OK.. :o thanks you just saved me £180.00 :D

What then is the situation with my fiancee and baby son? what do they need to apply for?

Fiancee is on her own as far as I can see so a multi entry non immigrant O visa would be the best choice. Will let Sunbelt or others advise on son but will caution that you will have to meet salary requirements to obtain extension of stay from immigration (higher than for work permit) - normal expat salary would not be a problem but for low paying jobs it can be. In that case the multi entry visa for you would also be in order. I believe the minimum monthly salary for UK is in the 50-60k area but not sure of exact amount.

:o:D My Salary is no-where near that in LOS - I will be earning approx 70K THB

Should I therefore apply for Multi visa for all 3 of us?

I will ALWAYS reccommend a Multi entry .... should your work situation change after the first 90 days (or the company slip-up in getting the WP and extension of stay) you only have to cross a border to extend for 90 days ... if you had a single entry you'd be given 7 days .....

Can anyone else help me out ? :o

70k is more than 50-60k so you should be fine for extensions of stay (when I say UK I mean for UK passport holders - not UK pounds). This is a forum so people read at different times so you may find more information when you come back on Friday.

That should work but as JD said for many people it is good to obtain the multi entry if there are any doubt about your employer getting your work permit in a timely manner (but this is mostly for those coming to teach or without firm employment plans), but you might want to invest the extra as insurance if you plan to live here regardless of employment as it would give you more time to search.

One other thing to think about is schooling. If your son is of that age. Costs are not cheap for good, or even half good, schools. The fiancee will have to be making 90 day visa runs and future will be in doubt as it is not likely she can obtain a new visa anywhere in the area (although if marriage is to be soon that may not be a concern).
