Italian coastguards make big rescue at sea, but many feared dead in sinking

ROME: -- talian coastguards intervened overnight in the Mediterranean to save the lives of 108 migrants trapped on a semi-submerged rubber boat who were discovered by a private humanitarian rescue group, SOS Mediterranee.

Their ship, the Aquarius, found six bodies on the boat, but there are unconfirmed reports of a big tragedy at sea not far away.

“We really need to reflect, especially today, facing yet another tragedy in the Mediterranean in which, it seems, several hundred people have died, on the day we are marking the first anniversary of the shipwreck in which 800 people lost their lives,” said Italian President Sergio Mattarella.

Mattarella was referring to the heavy loss of life exactly a year ago when 800 refugees
died in the biggest single shipwreck of the migrant crisis so far, when their overloaded fishing boat collided with the merchant ship that had come to rescue them.

If the as-yet-unconfirmed reports of 400 people drowning off the coast of Egypt prove to be accurate, it would be the second-worst single disaster recorded so far.

The photo is worth so many words.

How desperate must the plight of these poor souls be to taking such risks?

To step up into a 'vessel' like that I wonder how terrible their situation must have been.

And solution? I doubt it. Problem so big.

It'll take more than prayer and a few keystrokes.

It is almost as if Merkel unilaterally inviting these Africans to Germany is causing a great many deaths. Hundreds of deaths in fact in the stampede she created. I'm quite sure nobody could have foreseen such terrible problems when Merkel invited all and sundry to feast upon the German welfare system, it seemed such a marvelous idea. Well, seeing as nobody expressed doubts it can hardly be Merkels fault can it, somebody should have warned her. Not as if it would have been illegal to warn her of the disastrous consequences? Or was it?

and hopefully took them right back to where they belong - the African shore

This can all be stopped quickly by returning all migrants back to Libya when they are rescued. Migrants will quickly run out of money for the traffickers. The trafficking plan does not include passage to a European island but pick-up/ rescue by European ships who then ferry migrants to Italy. coffee1.gif

How do you know their situation was terrible? Most of them are simply fleeing poverty, not war as the left wing media will have you believe. Have you seen how they behave once they get into the EU?

No sympathy from me.

I detect more than a hint of sarcasm :)

I think everyone and their dogs were screaming against it, and huge amounts of politicians also warn of her stupidity.

But unfortunately it was all drowned out by a bunch of left wing socialists using the situation to 'virtue signal' on their twitter accounts.

Now with the destruction we see every day, the lawlessness of them and the HUGE spike in sex attacks on primarily teen aged white schoolgirls.... They are all starting to look a bit silly.

I wonder how unreal their ideas of life in Europe have been

I wonder how unreal their ideas of life in Europe have been

and I wonder who implanted them with those ideas
