webfact Posted April 20, 2016 Share Posted April 20, 2016 Nong Khai declared disaster zone after storm hits villagesImage: Daily NewsBANGKOK: -- Nong Khai was declared a disaster zone after about one hundred houses were damaged in a violent summer storm that hit the province on Monday.Villagers were picking up the pieces yesterday after storms with whirlwinds and hailstones downed trees, caused accidents and put a police station out of action, Daily News reports.Nong Khai governor Suchart Napawan declared the province a disaster zone and called for authorities to act fast to repair damage and restore order.The storm on Monday evening centred around the Sangkhom and Pornpisai districts. Seventy five houses were damaged in Sangkhom district, eleven seriously. The Nangiw police station was badly damaged especially the roof with vehicles parked outside damaged by falling trees and branches.A tree downed on the Nong Khai - Pak Chom, Loei road was downed that blocked the road injuring two motorcyclists.There were thankfully no other reports of injuries.Hailstones in Pornpisai district also damaged 25 houses.Source: Daily News-- 2016-04-20 Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

Stargeezr Posted April 20, 2016 Share Posted April 20, 2016 I know a fellow in Nong Khai, Keith. B. , I hope he and his wife and family are doing okay. I will have to go there this coming Winter and see how he is doing. It sure sounds like that was some wicked storm, in that area with so many houses being damaged. I will never plant a big tree near my house for the very reason of that one hitting the pickup.
