BANGKOK: -- Nong Khai was declared a disaster zone after about one hundred houses were damaged in a violent summer storm that hit the province on Monday.

Villagers were picking up the pieces yesterday after storms with whirlwinds and hailstones downed trees, caused accidents and put a police station out of action, Daily News reports.

Nong Khai governor Suchart Napawan declared the province a disaster zone and called for authorities to act fast to repair damage and restore order.

The storm on Monday evening centred around the Sangkhom and Pornpisai districts. Seventy five houses were damaged in Sangkhom district, eleven seriously. The Nangiw police station was badly damaged especially the roof with vehicles parked outside damaged by falling trees and branches.

A tree downed on the Nong Khai - Pak Chom, Loei road was downed that blocked the road injuring two motorcyclists.

There were thankfully no other reports of injuries.

Hailstones in Pornpisai district also damaged 25 houses.

I wouldn't hold my breath waiting, if I were you,...

And only 45km away in NK centre all we had was a bit of wind but still no rain yet !

But how much rain fell. Every little bit helps. wink.png

I know a fellow in Nong Khai, Keith. B. , I hope he and his wife and family are doing okay.

I will have to go there this coming Winter and see how he is doing. It sure sounds like that

was some wicked storm, in that area with so many houses being damaged. I will never plant a big tree near my house

for the very reason of that one hitting the pickup. I would rather have a Sala or a Shade, shack. and something

anchored into the ground, before having a tree for shade.

Stargeezer.
