Special committees to be formed to tackle major issues

BANGKOK, 20 April 2016 (NNT) – The government has set up special committees to remedy illegal fishing practices, issues in the civil aviation sector and the matter of human trafficking with an eye on making the issues urgent national agendas.

At a meeting of the 5th Administrative Reform Steering Commission chaired by Deputy Prime Minister Gen Prawit Wongsuwan a proposal was tabled for special committees to be set up to deal with the issues of illegal fishing practices, civil aviation and human trafficking. A working committee to remedy the falling price of rubber products was also recommended.

In a latest update on improvements to the civil aviation sector, the government has set new regulations for the selection of personnel, restructured the sector and set new criteria for directors with an eye to have the changes implemented by this June.

A new team of 16 aviation auditors is also being assembled while the administration prepares to sign a memorandum of understanding with the European Aviation Safety Agency to further develop civil aviation safety standards in the nation. The deal will couple with collaboration with Japan to develop personnel for the sector.

The commission has suggested that the matter of illegal fishing practices be made an urgent national agenda after the European Union forwarded 65 suggested work plans to the government.

Will there be a special comittee to tackle nepotism with the PM's appointment of family members?

More waffle!

Another week here, another major scam/flaw/outcry comes to the surface and another committee is formed...only to produce words of reassurance & no real action taken.

Q. How do you know a Thai isn't doing anything?

A. They've set up a committee.

I thought there were committees for each of those calamities. Maybe they should actually do something rather than talk about them.

Be fair...do not limit it to "Thai"

More accurate: "How do you know any organization (public or private sector) isn't doing anything?"

Special commitee => commission => hearings => <black hole>

Special commitee => commission => hearings => <black hole>

and then the latest celebrity/rich kid drunk driving scandal comes up and whitewashes everything else.

Similar to helicopter combat losses in the Vietnam War era...every ship that was lost was carrying approximately 5x the normal payload.

I'm not a big fan of Lee Kuan Yew, but sometimes I wish someone like that would come to power in Thailand and clean up the whole pig-sty (police, army, navy, civil servants, government agencies) once and for all, it's about time something is done.

I am sorry, but isn't a "Special committee(s) ... to tackle major issues" called THE GOVERNMENT?

Not on the national agenda - peace negotiations with the Malay-Thai insurgents.

Go ahead if you can afford to throw in 7 holidays whistling.gif

...clean up the whole pig-sty (police, army, navy, civil servants, government agencies) once and for all

That would need a Lee Kuan Yew with a Pol Pot mentality.

Reading between the lines: previous high profile efforts were insufficient.

If at first you don't succeed....

Regarding rubber prices:

The price is up this year.

Would love to hear what ideas the committee bounces around. Flexible thinking will be the key.

buh-dump. I'm here all week folks!

Yes, much less corruption would be so much more productivity and wealth for the average Thai.

A Committee - a group of people who individually can decide nothing and who collectively can only decide nothing can be done.

A committee is the unhappy, appointed by the unwilling, to do the unwanted.

A working committee to remedy the falling price of rubber products was also recommended.

What are they gonna do - buy a gross of condoms each?

It's called market forces. Live with it.

Ten more years of junta control. You can not try to make a dog or a Thai eat some thing that they know will kill them in the long run. Junta does not want Democracy but just total control of all the Thai people!

If authorities would just get on with it and do their jobs there would be no need for more and more committees ! Or are they out of other jobs to give to family members and friends ? rolleyes.gif It really never ends does it ? coffee1.gif

Committees - the sensible alternative to work.
