NARATHIWAT: -- Army rangers with sniffer dogs say they have uncovered a bomb making factory deep in the Narathiwat jungle.

They say that it is likely to have been the place where explosives used in an attack on a hospital in the troubled southern province were manufactured, Daily News reports.

Rangers from 45 and 46 division trekked several hours into the jungle with their dog teams in the mountain range of Khao Tawae. They were acting after a tipoff was received that armed men had been seen in the area.

Buried in fertiliser sacks under trees they found a large cache of evidence including nails, wires, plugs, other electrical items, a stove, clothes, syringes and medical supplies.

Everything is being tested for fingerprints and DNA so that it can be compared to suspects wanted for outrages across Narathiwat.

Officials said that the equipment was likely to be connected to an attack on the Jor Ay Rong hospital on March 13th of this year.

Instead of splashing it all over the papers, watch it and/or the approaches and ambush anyone collecting stuff from there.

Does not look very much like a factory does it?

If this is true, good job rangers. This is what the army is supposed to do.

Not what I envision when the word Factory is used. Perhaps Pit would be better.

In truth you don't need a lot of technology to make a bomb, a few sacks of fertilizer and the odd handful of bits and pieces.

Leaving a few empty fertilizer bags next to the road was a surefire way of spooking the police and troops in Northern Ireland!

What? And miss the adulation of the public? Not likely. The government has a mass infection of blurt-itis. Has had since Adam was a boy.

Technology no, components yes. The correct type of fertilizer and diesel are the easy part. After being mixed and put into the intended receptacle, it is usually initiated by one or more types of fuse, a detonator of some kind, commercial or improvised, and some other explosive, i.e. gelignite. Not exactly difficult but certain reasonably common household or gardening items can form the main bang. It is always the initiators that are more difficult to obtain and/or match up. Looks like a store dump to me. A few well placed & camouflaged cameras might have been a good idea, because they would come back for it, but if they had done that they would have told us that too........

Yes. an OP on the cache may well have paid off - probably a bit too much like hard work
