Search resumes for two missing people in Ratchaprapa dam

BANGKOK: -- Rescue workers resumed their search Sunday for two people, including a diver, who went missing and believed drowned in the Ratchaprapa dam in Surat Thani province on Saturday.

The two missing people were identified as Mr Prachit Saisema, a local villager whose boat capsized as it collided with a tourist boat, and Mr Chayut Thipchit, a diver who went missing while searching for missing people after the boat accident in the reservoir.

Four divers, including Mr Chayut, took part in the search for Mr Prachit who went missing. The Kuson Sattha foundation dispatched a four-man team of divers to search for Mr Prachit by means of allowing the four divers to climb down a rope tied to a buoy into the bottom of the reservoir.

However, it was reported that the rope snapped and only three except Mr Chayut managed to emerge from the depth but two of them suffered from bends and had to be rushed to Wachira hospital in Phuket for emergency treatment.

Latest report said that the two divers are now safe.

This message says a lot about Thai safety standards. Rescue workers using an unsafe rope that breaks while they are using it resulting in the death of one of their rescue divers. If this was in another country. The family would sue the rescue workers Union or or entity that controls them for failing to meet safety standards on the job. And they would win too. The only reason for a rope to break would be too much weight from 4 people or, old and deteriorated rope.

the next time i go diving i think i will "climb down". Is there some very strong current in the reservoir? why a rope? zero visibilty?

why would professional divers suffer from the bends (Decompression sickness)? how deep is the water?

.....why would professional divers suffer from the bends (Decompression sickness)? how deep is the water?...

Deep enough to substantiate the claim that there is enough water until the rains come in July.........

A Chinese whispers article. I wonder how many people with zero knowledge/understanding of rescue and diving, apparently including the rescue team themselves, this information has passed through to end up in this state.

Can anyone see an alternate air source anywhere in the picture? :((
