BURIRAM:-- Relatives of a famous Thai country singer in hospital with cancer turned out in force to refute claims they are using money donated by fans to help him.

The wife and mother of Dang Jittakorn - a celebrated 'luuk thung' artist - said that claims made online that they were using money inappropriately are nonsense, reports Manager.co.th.

They turned up at a bank in a Big C in Buriram, north eastern Thailand, to show bank books containing some 3.5 million in donations.

Only 50,000 had been taken out of the account, said the singer's wife Uraiwan Kaetphukhiaw and that was for legitimate household expenses and travel to and from the hospital where her husband is seriously ill.

She certainly has not used any of the donations inappropriately or for gambling, she said.

Allegations were made on Facebook by a famous singing coach called Sanyalak Donsri that donations were being used inappropriately and subsequent shares and comments left the singer's family in great distress.

Uraiwan asked for the posts to stop though she said she still respects Sanyalak "like a relative" and does not intend to take any further action.

She said that she wanted to thank all the fans who had contributed to the fund and hoped that her husband would recover and get back to performing again. She added that she has not told the singer about the controversy as it might affect his recovery.

Dang's mother Kong Ramleuchai backed up her daughter-in-law saying that she had shown great fortitude and courage in doing everything to help her son. She too called for the untrue online posts to cease.

3.5 mio baht (more then most Thais will earn in a lifetime) donations for a former wealthy singer who lost everything... probably because of keeping his lifestyle even after his music career was over....

Eh, come again? A Freudian slip?

Nothing Freudian about the quote. It is just you being unable to understand where the emphasis is, try this...

Isn't that easy?

No, not really. I read it the same way, and the ambiguity was obvious. Easily fixed by adding "for purposes other than (to help him.)"

What? That makes literally no sense and clears nothing up.

Cheers anyway, Mr. Serious.

When will ppl start taking responsibility on what they post on social media? Positive, negative or personal opinions r ok. But slander without proof is pretty serious.

After reading the back and forth volley above; I thought grammar police posts were a no-no?

Regardless, back on topic: I liked the post about social media responsibility when it borders on slander. The opposite and just as worthy is taking internet information as non-fact and anyone can post/comment/report without facts; making it frivolous and not meant to be taken seriously.

Does seem a little odd that they admit to taking out only 50,000 Bt. From 3.5 MB for household expences and travelling expended to and from the hospital...and take out nothing for medical expences, which is what the fund was set up for?

Why do you claim Deang made a lot of money then 'lost' it all? This seems as bad as the songwriter claiming his family have mis used the raised funds without any evidence what so ever, they have clearly not. Also, his career was not 'over' as he is still under contract to Top Line Diamond, a very good recording company. Somebody on here questioned them not using the money for the medical bills, well you usually get the bill at the end of the treatment and if he's in ICU and having cancer treatment that 3.5 million will probably end up being a bit short, even in Buri Ram.

Even quite successful singers do not always make fortunes in Thailand, one company does not pay them anything for album sales and does not even tell them how many they sold. Often they get 50%-95% of concert fees, minus expenses, which can be a lot. Few are actually on a wage monthly so income mostly depends on concert appearances. Minor singers with contracts might earn just 2-6k per performance, it's a hard life and can be a struggle especially after you had a bit of success but then the popularity goes down. Added to that you have all sorts of pressures from companies and songwriters, women are in a worse position there.!

In Deangs case yes he liked a drink and a smoke and like a lot of other singers from poor backgrounds he probably needed to if the financial pressures of his family were anything like some of the others I know about. I'm quite proud of the Thai music fans who rallied round to help him so far and the singers as well, Ying Lee gave 50k, Sala Chunawitt 50k and Jintara Poonlap 10k etc, these people are not fools and don't throw their money around, so they must have some respect for the guy. I hope he can recover, at least nobody has called him a 'genius', thank goodness. I'd be happy to learn of any evidence of vast earnings, squandering the lot and him having no career. Have you ever met him, seen him perform or know anything about him at all?
