NRSA reviews reforms for preservation of cultural heritage sites

BANGKOK, 25 April 2016 (NNT) – The National Reform Steering Assembly (NSRA) has reviewed a report on cultural heritage site management with the intention to draft new legislation for reacquiring important plots of land.

The NRSA most recently received a report from its committee on reforming sports, art, culture, religion and morality, which proposed legal amendments to remedy redundant claims on cultural heritage sites.

The proposal states that the Real Estate Expropriation Act of 1987 and other relevant legislation should be amended so that plots of land deemed cultural heritage sites can be acquired by the state for public benefit.

It highlighted that public awareness should also be fostered for the conservation and development of such sites by allowing for citizens to propose new heritage sites.

The main body of the NRSA agreed with the report and has suggested that more personnel be acquired by the Fine Arts Department to work on teaching the public about culturally significant sites.
