PHUKET: -- Cherng Talay Childcare Center in Kamala performed free circumcisions on about 25 Muslim boys aged 5-9 years old yesterday.

The tradition involves surgically removing the foreskins of young Islamic males and was sponsored by the Phuket Islamic Saving Co-operative, which donated 20,000 baht to the Kamala Administration Organization (OrBorTor).

“The circumcisions are done in different sub-districts each year. This year it was due to be held in Kamala,” said OrBorTor council member Sontaya Soontornrak.

What they wont talk about are comparable events held and sponsored by similar organizations to "circumcise" young girls, from infants to age 7 & 8. Sometimes it's just a symbolic scratch on the clitoris but more often it involves excising a piece of the clitoral hood and sometimes the tip of the clitoris as well. It has become increasingly common in Malaysia and Indonesia in the last decade as conservative Islam has become more popular and there are reports of it taking hold in some of the southernmost Thai provinces.

One of the great arguments in Islam these days is whether it was encouraged by the prophet or not.

Classified as a human rights abuse by the UN and most nations and referred to as "Female Genital Mutilation" (FGM), though not nearly as severe as more extensive versions found in Africa and the middle east...especially Egypt and Somalia.

Just to say that FGM existed in Africa long time before Islam.

The origins of the practice are unknown. Its east-west, north-south distribution in Africa meets in Sudan.
Gerry Mackie has suggested that infibulation originated there with the Meroite civilization (c. 800 BCE — c. 350 CE) and imperial polygyny, before the rise of Islam, to increase confidence in paternity.
The proposed circumcision of an Egyptian girl, Tathemis, is mentioned on a Greek papyrus from 163 BC in the British Museum.
My comment : it was and still is all about control of the female sex live by the males

IF Islam was any good it would compel the men to keep their dick in their trousers NOT women to cover up (so's not to inflame the man !)

But the men are always in the right and the women are always in the wrong ... so says the Koran ...

This ritualistic mutilation of children is an abhorrent, evil practice and nothing short of an extreme form of child abuse.

But, of course if you hide behind the hypocrisy of religion you can get away with murder.
