Udon cremation sites latest - man alleges four cops threatened to kill him and took ransoms

....so ...mass graves....and the government is not stepping in....???

...maybe the international community should start asking questions....

Sad thing about this idea is when has Thailand ever give a F about what the international community says especially when it pertains to human decency and human rights. There are no great people in the world than Thai and no great country/civilization...paraphrasing what they think but highly accurate.

Some things I don`t get. What were the circumstances that led to human remains being there? And why?

(Don't) judge the entire RTP force based on this one incident!

They are vile.

They are judged on thousands of incidents.

And there are over 200,000 officers.. The vast majority doing an OK job.. Are they up to Western standards NO but they are doing the job they were trained to do.. It really is the minority that ARE vile!

PS: the US and other Western countries had a few well documented police abuse cases in the 70's and 80's.

Have bad western cops been known to threaten those who have found a mass grave?

Well it seems members of the RTP are attempting to keep that information to themselves.

Thirty years ago Udon was known as a city that was "sa-aat sa-duak sa-bai" -- roughly translated, "clean, convenient, comfortable." There was virtually no violent crime, robberies, burglaries, etc., and everyone knew why. When a person was identified as being that type of criminal, he was picked up, taken into the forest between Amphur Muang and Amphur Kutchab, shot in the head, put in a drum with tires and gasoline, burned, and then the drum was buried. As most of the forest was cleared years ago, I suppose it needs to be done more quickly so the process has been shortened to exclude the drum burial.

My respect to Mr. Joo; if he or his family disappear then the world would know who did it......

Scums with a licence........

The problem is, will anybody care? And if they did could they do anything about it? Not without ending up dissapearing with him!!!

Thailand's low budget version of the killing fields?

My point exactly!

... Any attempt at irony on this Forum is pretty much like trying to explain something in Latin to a donkey.

That's stupid, Donkeys can't speak any language so it wouldn't need to be Latin. >_>

...genuinely lost for words at this alleged RTP conduct. Hopefully an independent Police unit will investigate.

Respect for the courage in speaking up Uncle Joo.

Rest easy the local chief is onto it. I see another couple of transfers in the wind!!!

Severe penalties for the officers involved...

Like un paid leave for 3 months or something? What a joke!

so that's a QED on the irony thing then.................

Couldn't this be a case of Lese Majeste? I mean calling your mafia organisation "Royal" as in "Royal Thai Police" must be considered illegal, right?

I have thought for years the title Royal should be striped from their name until their behaviour is exemplary which at present it is far from being so, it is not every cop who is crocked far from it but still far too many bad apples in the barrel.

Three friends of mine are at the moment dealing with the RTP..the 6 Thai men who commited the crime against them (in full view of the CCTV camera) will be set free if the 3 tourists do not find a good lawyer to argue their case..There's international law, then there's Thai law..& in the case of Thai law.. arrests (even for crimes caught on camera) do not result in convictions..MiB's paid to NOTdo their job yet again! TiT.

30 years ago? Today it is still common practice in my home province Petchaburi...

Especially Cha-am cops are notorious...

The Thai police force are very corrupt but there are different levels of corruption and many just take their cut of the bribe money and enjoy the privileges of their position without sinking to the murky depths of others. Corruption is accepted and in many cases expected in Thailand, no point in trying to instill western values in this part of South East Asia

'"Joo" ... said more than half a million baht was extorted by bent coopers.' Obviously collected in a barrel.

You could throw in some Ouzo..........thumbsup.gif

During the time I lived in Brazil a police officer was arrested after the finding of remains of 400 of his victims over a period of many tears were discovered when one of his last survived and staggered out of the jungle. aAnd yes,, he worked on the side for rival mafia. If this Thai scenario is ever really disclosed I would have no surprise if not similar. Not far fromwhere I stay is a border area where locals fear to go. The official reason is UXB's but most say it is a burial ground. I know the possibility of old mines doesn't stop them so........?.whistling.gif

I fully agree with but we're having trouble locating honest cops

The largest organised criminal gang in the country is at it again, so it would seem smile.png Very sad, as they are so powerful they can do whatever they like and get away with it. They were the first people I thought of, not some lone serial killer, but I see no solution sad.png

Organised might be stretching things a little!

"He admitted he had previously faced a drugs charge and done time in Nong Khai prison. He said more than half a million baht was extorted by bent coopers."

I guess they had the poor guy over a barrel unable to stave off their extortionate demands..

Yeah! the guy was delivering sugar cane when he was approached by the alleged corrupt police. Everyone knows sugar cane is one of the most profitable businesses one can engage in in the LOS.

Is it brown sugar?
