What is required ?

Does your name just have to be on the birth certificate or will they need DNA tests ?

Well im not married and got 1 year old. Im on birth cert.

I was told I can get multiple entry in penang.

No dna tests

What I need is birth cert house book with baby name in it and 100k in a bank.

Hope it helps

Just out of curiosity what is the upper age limit that is applied in a case like this?

For example if my wife dies and my son is perhaps 25 could I still claim an extension of stay using him?

After all he is still my son.

There is no age limit since you will always be their parent.

Some offices say 20 years because they are applying the age limit that is written in the clause of the police order for the extension that is meant for children to get an extension.

Thank you for that information.

I am not planning to die yet and neither is my wife (I am on a retirement extension) but it is is useful nugget of information to know. It may help other people too.

I do this every year, fortunately I go back to the UK each year and the process is simple. All you need to send with your passport is:

1. Application form

2. Fee

3. A copy of your child's birth certificate (with your name on it as father).

4. Marriage certificate. I was not married to my child's mother so I send the legitimization papers and the custody papers.

As I understand it the age limit is either 20 or 21.

Hope that helps.

There is certainly no age limit to get visa based upon being theparent the parent of a Thai.

The confusion is from 20 being the maximum age for non Thai children to get extensions as dependents of their parents.

In bold, not required in Penang. For one year non O they are asking for details of Thai Bank account and copies signed by the Thai parent also.

I am aware of Penang's requirements. If you look at line two I wrote some will do it with just his name on the birth certificate.

When was the last time you applied for non-o multiple from penang? Was it marriage or non-spouse family (thai son/daughter)

I'll be going to Penang in June to get non o, and just to clarify this is what I'm intending to do.

(I'm father of a one year old born in Thailand to Thai mum, I'm UK , but no marriage nor legalised yet)

Original documents

-Child registration pink book

-My passport

Printouts

-Internet banking statement showing 100k minimum Thai baht (do they confirm with the bank that that funds are there on the day, do they need the funds to have been in for a certain length of time?).

I don't know if anyway to get original statements from my bank. I have a savings book but I won't be not in Thailand to get it updated.

Copies (all signed by mother)

-Stamped official translation of child - birth certificate with me shown on document

-Thai birth certificate of child birth as above

-Mother Thai ID

Thanks a lot for any help in pointing out whether I'm missing anything.

No translation of the birth certificate is needed if it is in Thai or English.

You will need the birth certificate plus a copy and a copy of the child's house book registry (it is blue not pink). You can sign the the copies yourself there no requirement for the child's mother to do it.

You can update your bank book before you leave Thailand. No need for an update on the date you apply. The 100k baht only has to be in bank on the date your apply no need for it to be there any amount of time.

Where is the 100k number coming from?

That is Penang's minimum financial proof to get a multiple entry non-o visa based upon marriage for being the parent of a Thai. They will also accept proof of income.

A copy of bank statement is mentioned in the requirements to get a non-o visa but it does not mention an amount. See: http://www.thaiembassy.org/penang/contents/files/services-20140508-110623-169095.pdf

That's different to every other place. Well worth knowing, thanks.

Thanks. I understand now, I thought you meant the pink birth book everyone gets in Thailand when pregnant.

Does my name need to be in the Ta Bien Baan (blue book), it is not at present, and I doubt it could be without a residential visa...sorry if sounds stupid question!

Bank book with 100k will be tricky as I will be coming from UK to Penang, and intended transferring money into Thai account online, so wont be able to get the savings book updated. It only shows 20k at present. Any suggestions? Printouts?

Thanks again

Only the page in the tambien ban where your child's name is. Yours normally would not be there.

They should accept a printout from online banking.

Actually, only self-signed copies are needed at Penang consulate. No originals are required that I've experienced. But if you want to take the original birth certificate to be safe, go ahead.

Bank statement can be an internet statement (of online banking page), and it does not have to be thai bank account. It only needs to be 1 page; the one that clearly shows your name and the account current/ending balance >100k thb equivalent. I recommend it be in a major currency (e.g. USD, EUR, GBP etc) or MYR, SGD, THB

Looking back on this thread, no one actually detailed all the requirements in a concise format from Penang consulate:

- Thailand visa application form Multiple entry, Non-Immigrant O for visiting family requested.

- original passport with > 1 year validity, plus 3+ spare pages.

- photocopy of passport photo/signature page, signed

- 2 passport photos of applicant

- photocopy of mother's thai id card, signed

- photocopy of thai dependent's birth certificate, signed

- photo copy of tambien baan (housebook) page with dependent's full name/national ID number and parent's first names and the first page with the land/property description. The 2 pages were small enough to fit on one A4 page. Signed

- Bank statement with name of applicant and current/ending balance showing >100k baht or equivalent (for non-Thai bank); signed. No minimum seasoning of money needed. I regularly use a non-thai bank.

But it has been spoken of in other threads like this one Aug 2014 (newer report here Nov 2015)

as well as getting to/from Pinang from Thailand here. Penang Consulate is very pleasant to deal with as of this writing, next day turnaround is efficient.

I think a new sticky thread that summarizes confirmed Thai visa requirements at different neighboring consulates would be useful.
