Twenty seems a little young to be piloting one of those speed boats with passengers on board. Does anyone know if they must be licensed to operate marine craft and if so if these are routinely checked? Accidents happen anywhere but all reasonable steps should be taken to minimize them.

what makes you think a licence to operate marine craft( even if there is such a thing) would be any indication of proficiency and good attitude? I mean do all those Thai's that have a licence to operate a public vehicle on land in Thailand(and in particular minivan drivers!) give you any reason to think it makes any difference whatsoever to their behaviour?ermm.gif

In addition, boat drivers must be retrained to have conscious minds towards security and safety of tourists.

Good luck with that.

Absolutely a case for "attitude adjustment", MP to the spot please whistling.gif

You need a license to drive any kind of motorized water craft, not sure if there are any additional requirements if you ferry passengers.

Agree that having a license will not ensure safety. Thai + motorised vehicle <> safety

The only thing that could change this trend is if Pattaya Marine Police stationed personnel on the beaches and ban any drivers AND speed boat operators that endanger the public.

Also, all passenger speedboats should be banned from anchoring near the beach; they should be parked a few hundred meters out. Ban all Jet Skies.

The accidents have already taken place. As such you can not be proactive it is now reactive.

Proactive means they are going to do something to prevent another accident, nothing happened today so those lucky amulets they gave the boat operators this morning must have worked. gigglem.gif

Same system as for driving licenses, well a little different, cast off power the boat out and round a boy, back to pier tie two knots (a granny and a reef knot) and if the boat does not sink you have passed and if that is too difficult there is always the brown envelope.giggle.gif

It also means taking action to stop possible incidents and they have not done that. They would not do anything had these incidents not taken place. There are therefore being reactive i.e. acting on incidents that have already taken place
