CityNews – Chiang Mai Municipality attempts to remove some of the green algae that has overrun the moat by sucking it up.

Deputy Mayor of Chiang Mai, Chatree Chuamanochan, and a team of experts have been observing the moat since Songkran, keeping tabs on the algae count and working on ways to solve the green algae problem.

On April 27, five water tank trucks from the fire department were brought in to remove the algae infested water between Jang Ka Tum Corner and Jang Ku Hueang Corner.

They may as well leave the moat dry. Fill it up again and the algae, promoted by the current heat will only return.

Algae is a living organism ,kids who swim there and swallow it can get very sick

Its irresponsible to dump chemicals into the water and maybe an oportunity to give the moat a good clean out ,heaven knows what might be in there.

I walked by this pump truck the other day. Just up the moat about 100 yards in the water was a bloated dead animal of some sort stinking to high heaven. Was the size of a pig but probably a bloated dog. Still there 3 days later....

I guess not there job to remove it...

This was by Chiang Mai gate.

On another note quite a commotion at the mote across from Loi Kroh last night. Was told a human body discovered in the moat - any confirmation heard??

Biologics in the water allow algae to bloom. If it is clean water there is little chance for algae to prosper. Having a dead animal or raw waste being dumped is a treasure trove for the algae. Along with having hot temps, little to no water movement and having it get aerated by the fountains or wheels is just asking for it to take hold. For a country that water plays such a cultural role, no one cares about protecting it.

Yep siree. Green is lovely when all else is brown. Safe for Songkran and making the hospitals full. Good for tourists. Now the tourists have buggered off its dangerous.

Yep siree Welcome to whacko land
