29 provinces declared drought-affected areas

BANGKOK, 29 April 2016 (NNT) – Twent-nine provinces in Thailand have now been declared drought-stricken areas where the authorities will provide urgent relief to the affected villagers, according to the Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation (DDPM).

DDPM Director-General Chatchai Promlert revealed today that 5,679 villages in 705 counties and 154 districts of 29 provinces have been declared emergency areas affected by drought disasters.

The DDPM has appointed local administrative and military units to provide urgent assistance with tankers delivering water to the affected areas.

Unfortunately those tankers will be empty, since all the necessary water was wasted during Songkran. However, I am sure TAT will spin this story so tourists aren't put off.

This drought is very serious , and as usual the Thai government has done very little to mitigate its impact. It may continue into 2017,

Yet another limited report.......So,which 29 Provinces are drought stricken??

I believe that this is only the start. We are coming up to the main rice planting season, so far this year barely any rain, and if the farmers cannot plant their rice, where is the money going to come from later in the year?

Not quite true shirtless, very few rice paddies growing rice all over Thailand. At least there the "beloved" had some positive impact.

Last week there were 27, so you said.

Why not all. mr. DDPM? All of Thailand has drought problems.

I like it when it rains... I can ride my bike without being pulled over at every checkpoint, for being a foreigner..... Its not the best way to travel, but I am tired of the shakedowns all the time

Until then, my bike stays where it is....

The question is... will they learn their lesson, when Songkran comes around next time?

I just talked to my g/f who went home to Chiang Rai to visit family. She told me they had no water. Apparently a car had hit and damaged an above ground water pipe. They went to the high muckety muck and explained the situation to him. He said no problem we will have a water truck there in the morning. 3 days later still no water truck. Luckily there was a stream close by that still had a little water left so they had to haul it to the house for showering and doing dishes. These guys in charge are all talk and promises and no action.

Obviously you don't live in an affected province and get your information fro the guy on the next bar stool.

I live in Khampaeng Phet province where the government water supply failed in mid December 2015. Since then every month my wife has gone to the tessaban to register for a delivery of water,

She did the same last year when there was only 1 fire truck doing the deliveries.

This year there are 3 working 8 hours a day and 6 days a week and though you may think your post is funny, millions of Thais don't, and neither do I. I am not expecting any government water until August and Songkran was supported in the traditional way in most of this province.

No topic on TV can escape some childish comments. Do you really think all the necessary water would be available if it weren't for Songkran or is your main purpose having a joke while many people are suffering. Everyday on TV is like a trip down primary school memory lane.
