China May Train Cambodian Journalists

(Beijing) – In a blatant display of Chinese government public relations, the China Foundation for Peace and Development (CFPD) is considering a training course for Cambodian journalists to “accurately report” information about its “One Belt One Road” initiative. The training course is to be held at the request of Cambodian journalists, who last week met in Beijing alongside Chinese and Cambodian government officials and NGOs as part of an official visit to discuss the initiative.

CEO of Thmey Thmey Online News Ky Soklim said the CFPD invited NGOs and journalists and asked the CFPD to organize a training course to help journalists better understand the initiative. Representing journalists from various institutes who were also part of the Cambodian delegation, Mr. Soklim said a training course about the initiative would help China succeed with its policy.

“So in order to respond to the purpose of our Chinese counterpart, I think they should train our journalists to make this Belt and Road initiative successful,” he said, adding that the majority of Cambodian journalists have yet to clearly understand and report on the policy. “If the journalists do not understand this policy, then they won’t be able to report on it accurately,” Mr. Soklim said, adding that his Chinese counterparts should cooperate with the Cambodian Institute for Strategic Studies (CISS) and CCJ to organize two days of training.
