Good morning,

I'll keep this brief: I am a German national and - after several years of Singapore - have found myself a job in Bangkok starting from June 6th. I am now in Singapore.

Local BKK HR requested me to go to the Thai embassy in Singapore to get a multiple-entry Non-O visa. The embassy however said they wouldn't do that in general and issued me a single entry visa for which I "could obtain a multiple re-entry permit once I am in Thailand".

Now there is an unscheduled weekend trip to Pattaya (via U-Tapao airport) coming up from May 13-15 (both evening flights) after which I will leave Asia for the U.S. till June 2nd.

Q: Can I either tell the immigration officer in U-Tapao NOT to use my Non-O-Visa but to give me a regular tourist stamp for that weekend OR is there a way to obtain the multiple re-entry permit on a weekend in Pattaya/U-Tapao?

Did you get a non-o visa or a non-b. A non-b is the normal visa for business or working.

A re-entry permit will only keep the 90 day entry from the visa valid. It does not give any additional time. To stay longer in the country you will need a work permit and then apply for an extension of stay at immigration which the company should arrange.

It is unlikely that immigration would give you visa exempt entry instead of using the visa. You can try aching them but leave the visa number space blank on the arrival card.

As far as I know Utapao has no re-entry permit desk. Are you leaving from Utapao when you depart for the US.

You would have to apply at an immigration office for the re-entry permit at an immigration office. If in Pattaya that would be the office in Jomtien. Unless you are going to make several trips during the 90 days from the visa a single re-entry permit that costs 1000 baht would be all you would need. A multiple re-entry premit costs 3800 baht.

yes, i meant non-b, sorry about that. I'll be flying back to SIN form U-Tapao and leave for the US the next morning. There is zero time to visit the embassy again between May 13th and June 6th.

Essentially I would have loved to leave the visa untouched when flying to UTP for a weekend, then go to Bangkok in June and let my company handle all the work permit/multiple entry/extension stuff.

The way I see it, any trip to Thailand between now and June would void my visa and the immigration office in Jomtien isn't open on weekends!?

Guess I'll stay home then I don't want to let it come down to the individual decision of an immigration officer in UTP whether he wants to use the visa or give an exemption stamp.

Alternative: Can I add a tourist visa for that weekend on top of the non-b?

Immigration offices are not open on weekends.

If you were flying from either airport in Bangkok there are re-entry permit desks.

I doubt very much you could get a tourist visa without the non-b visa being canceled first.

Since Bangkok is not on the schedule and I can hardly hide the visa page from an immigration officer, I guess I'll stay home that weekend

I recently went through the process of getting what you are attempting in Singapore at the Thai Embassy. They put you through many steps but they made it much easier once you arrive to start work. You do not need a multiple entry visa...you will get a work visa...and re-entry permits...others in this forum will provide the proper document/visa names...but know that that Embassy, while being very picky, is doing you a favor.
